car idling is really bad
hello everyone, i have a 02 accord and it's on its 55k mile. The car these days seems to be shaking like crazy whenever it's idling....also, my normal idling rpm is around 750 but nowadays it seems like it goes down to as low as 250 rpm and bounces back up to 750 many times. Note, I have never changed my spark plugs yet. Does anybody know what the problem may be? Any replies or help is welcome, thanks.

Ok, pull the plugs out and you will know if they are bad and then try replacing the spark plugs first and then you will know if that fixes the problem.

How do I know if a spark plug's bad? Also, how do I pull out the spark plug? Will it be a pain to put it back in? I know, these are very nub questions, but I have no experience on the engine cept for intake. Any help is welcome, thanks.

Neighbors or co-workers who'd help you out for a beer? Be careful before doing stuff yourself so you don't completely mess it up.
If you wanna learn how to work on your car, get a repair manual. It shows how to do all that stuff. Even a Chilton or Haynes from the library can help. (www.helminc.com sells the best repair manual, but $$$)
Spark plug wires are along the top of the engine. Pull them straight out, leave them connected at the distributor (don't mix them up...) Get a spark plug socket which has a rubber collar that grabs the plug so you can lift it out from that deep hole.

There's pictures of good & bad spark plugs for you to compare. New plugs are pretty cheap so I wouldn't bother putting the old ones back in.

my 95 LX is idling like a bitch. I've checked everything sensors, wiring,IAC & EGR. What are common causes for bad idle??? Unlike this guy i know my way around a honda & i've done the search

Rough like misfiring? Bad plugs, plug wires, spark shorting to ground across a cruddy distributor cap? Stuff like that.
RPM surging up & down? Vacuum leaks. Bad IACV (its possible to be bad, since you've already cleaned it)?
RPM steady but too high or too low? Adjust base idle setting.
RPM usually steady but it's easily upset by AC cycling or big electrical loads? That also could be the base idle set wrong.
I'm sure there's more possibilities...

hey guys, thanks for the help
i just recently found out from autozone that my car is throwing a PO505 sign which means that I have a "idle control system malfunction" how bad is this? How much will it cost? What should I do?

my 95 lx improved once i got the grounding licked but still acts as if it's misfiring. I'm preety sure i have the vacuum lines right but not 100%. Not surging or anything and new plugs. It sputters while idling thru full range of rpm's and sometimes idles down past 750 to stall out. Havent checked into PCV, could that really cause the issues? i 'd like to think that i have the right firing order on the dizzy too... i appreciate all your input

You gotta find out the reason before you can ask what it costs.

Thats pretty severe, it doesn't sound like what you're describing. Get whatever manuals you need to be 100% sure about the vacuum lines.
