Default jdm itr pistons... not a compression question!

wats up guys? my friend blew his head gasket on his jdm itr motor. he's on the process of rebuilding and being a good friend of mine, he's giving me his jdm itr pistons because he wants higher compression. my question is... should i take his pistons and use them or should i just go ahead and buy a set of new ones? because i don't know if his pistons are warped or damaged in any sort of way. given i'm replacing the pistons rings. this will be going in a b18c1. thanks in advance!

I highly doubt the pistons are warped. Inspect them for scoring or other damage and make a judgement based off that. I would for sure get new rings as you have already stated.

Depends on 2 things:

1. Condition of Pistons
2. Condition/size of your cylinders.

althought the pistons are in good condition, you can't use them if your cylinder walls are out of limit.

take them they will raise your compressin to about 11.5: 1 good cheap way to raise the compression of a b18c1

I personally wouldn't use used pistons. JHP has some brand new JDM ITR pistons for $199

Buy new ones.

Remember ITR pistons come with a moly coating to reduce friction. Used pistons will sure be worse off in that area.

true but if they are free you can have Swain recoat them and still have plenty of change for new rings and ARP rod bolts....then you should be set.

Me neither, I bought my P73's new from JHP. lol.

I've re-ringed them for customers plenty of times, I know it's fine. It's all in my head and I can't get past it that I want new ones for my own stuff. Go figure.
