Any spring w/ a higher spring rate over stock is going to wear out the shocks faster. On the front of my car I have one stock shock and one Koni shock, and I'm having to resist the urge to turn up the stiffness on the Koni until I can get my replacement Koni for the other corner.
Hey I am running Neuspeed Sof Sport Springs (green) 1.8" drop on my car with stock struts. I think the stock struts are worn, but the overall ride is still ok. It's bouncy at times, but on the average, pretty good. Neuspeed is made by Eibach, manufactured in Germany, so they are good springs. I am switching to Eibach Prokit, however, because I need a smaller drop for Austin,TX driving. The roads are gonna eat my OEM lip someday...
I just ordered the KYB GR-2 shocks for my GSR. I got them from www.tirerack.com for $222.07 shipped. It was the cheapest place on the net I found. They're non-adjustable gas shocks that suit my needs perfectly. I'm also going to be using Neuspeed Race springs.

neuspeed is not made by Eibach. Neuspeed and H&R used to be the same springs, but those are different now, as well.

I have the Neuspeed Sports with Stock Struts, and the ride is very good. I only 20,000 miles, so my struts aren't worn out yet. I don't have any bouncyness, or harshness. I anticipate replacing my stocks prolly with in the next year though.... Hope it helps.
