wat short ram intake is the best?
First off at least post a question in the dialog box....
Second use the search button,
Third all SRI's are pretty much the same, you can get a cheap e-bay one and just put a K&N filter on and you will be fine

Correct. No intake is better than the rest. All it is, is an air filter and an aluminum arm. Get an arm and a filter and you're golden.

Not true. You think AEM doesnt have 100's of hours of testing that goes behind there product to get the best flow/sound possible?? AEM is 2.75" vs all the 3" ebay ones. Guess why??
Fitment is a huge part also, Ebay intakes usually fit like ****. So if you figure the price of a nice K&N filter on top of the price of the intake you'll be spending around the same as you would on a AEM one. Just go with a AEM.

That is the biggest crop of crap I've heard. You can only bend a tube a few ways. And unless its Turbo or SC 1/4 in of piping is not going to make a difference. ANd who cares what it sounds like. Form over function in my book.

come on, dude. it's an 18" pipe. exactly what kind of testing do they do compared to any other 18" pipe? lighter aluminum for weight reduction?

god, i love responses like this. no logic at work, nothing to back it up, just a simple, one-word answer. do you like it because it has a neat-o name, or do you like it "because?"

Exactly. There is no 'superior' intake, they all are the same. It is a aluminum pipe and an air filter, the ONLY thing that matters is the air filter.

You are absolutley correct, anyone who spends more than $30 on an intake deserves to pay that much.

Ok, whatever guys. You can go ahead and spend 30$ on a Ebay intake then 60$ for a nice filter for it for a total of 90$ and have it still fit and sound like ****. Or just spend the extra 10-15$ and get a AEM one that you know will have perfect fitment and comes with a awesome filter and be carb legal. I never said the AEM will perform better but it will fit/look/sound 10x better than a crappy Ebay one with a nice filter for pretty much the same price. You guys make the choice.
Since you live in CA, you might want to look into an intake with the CARB sticker since cops like to ticket people that don't have it. It's a matter of whether or not you're asked to pop your hood.
Otherwise, a filter on a stick is just that: a filter on a stick.
I like K&N filters because they're reusable.

i don't know why fitment is an issue. if it moves, tighten the clamps. theyre both going to sound the same because they're both PIPES with filters on the end. what's going to make it sound differet? and i live in ohio, so i don't give a **** about carb
explain to my why aem's pipe is better than any other aluminum pipe (other than carb) and i'll go out and buy one right now.

Fitment isnt a issue if you dont care about it rubbing on ****. Tightening the clamps isnt going to make up for poor design. Ive seen numerous Ebay intakes for the DA and DC that rub and sit against things it should be touching.
As far as why you should go with the AEM pipe over the Ebay ones is because 3" is too big for an engine of only 1.6l (1.8l or 2.0l too) and doesn't move enough air for a 3" pipe. With a 3" pipe you'd slow the air velocity down too much and lose power in the low end and have minimal gains, if any, in the top end over the 2.75" pipe. I'd only recommend using 3" pipe if you are using some kind of forced induction. That's the only way that a 1.6l (1.8l or 2.0l too) engine can move enough air to warrant a 3" pipe. But I guess none of that stuff matters to you so go ahead and get your shitty Ebay intake with a nice filter on it. But be warned for roughly the same price you could of had a quality piece.

Since I live in california and we have stupid laws, I go with the aem because when the damn cops pop my hood and I go to the smog shops they wanna see the damn carb sticker. Besides that, if you like a certain color or look of an intake and have all that extra cash I say go for it It's your money. I just got the aem cuz of the damn laws or I would also just get any other intake with a good filter
I think I'm gonna make this flame war get even hotter, but I'm just spekaing my mind. Haha. If you're looking for a cheap, basic SRI, go with the Checkpoint SRI on Ebay. It's the cheapest CARB legal intake I have ever seen.
If you are looking for something different, you can go three different ways. There's the J's Racing power chamber and replicas, the Top Fuel power chamber, and the Weapon-R Secret Weapon. None of these have a CARB EO#, but they should all perform a bit better than the normal, run of the mill, SRI. Just my two cents.
Now let the flame war rage on!
