98 jdm itr tranny?
i watched the best motor vid type r legend. I cann't understand why the 98 spec R lead through 3rd and then ends up drawing with the 96. Based on the vid it has something to do with taller gears, but i though the shorter gears usually wins because the 98 spec kept on changing first. So what would happen if they put the 4.7 in the 96 tranny who would win? I ask this question because i have the Jdm 98 spec itr engine and tranny in my itr and i ran a 14.5 in the quarter mile. Is a usdm itr tranny better in the quarter mile than the 98 jdm tranny? I know the jdm have the 4.7 final which help accelaration, but is the 4 gear so crucial. In regaurds to drag racing.
The final drive was put into the 98spec R to offset the fact that it uses 16in. wheels.
Many USDM owners run the JDM 4.785 with our 96spec gear ratios and it is a very good upgrade.
I have it myself but with a taller ATS first.
Also, there are too many factors to just lay final judgement solely based on that race.

True!
Anyway I have a 98 spec Euro ITR (4.7xxx gear ratio) and changing from 4th gear to 5th gear kind of sucks. What I mean is if you change too early on 4th gear (<9000rpm on tacho) when you get to 5th gear you're out of the VTEC zone
.
From 1st to 3rd I can change exactly at 8000rpm (on tacho)and VTEC keeps screaming all the way, when you get to 4th gear I have to strech it to 9000rpm before changing to 5th.
I tried this on the straight of our home cicuit (track day) and the benefits of stretching the 4th gear are more than evident.
