somewhat troublesome to install

 

I'm new to racing, and i kinda know why hoodpins are a good idea, but what are they for exactly? do they just lock the hood closed when they are in, or do they just reinforce the standard latch, or what? just askin..

Hood locks should not be relied upon to keep the hood closed. Proper hood pins should be used on a C/F hood.

If you have a C/F hood, use hood pins. They're inexpensive insurance against accidents such as the one pictured above.

I should note that he did in fact have hood pins, but from what I gather, a shop forgot to latch them.

Hood pins are a great idea. My buddy had a DC2 and his hood flew up and smashed his windshield when he was driving on the freeway.

Get hood pins.

 

hood pins . Ihave them in the exact same place as the other black Teg. When you open your hood use the big holes on the front support to put your studs through.

 

Hood pins are a must.. i didn't install my hood untill i had the pins installed.

Well I've had them on for over 2 years with no problems what so ever. They seem to work fine to me, and are way lower profile then regular pins.

 

I have the lock pins and they are pieces of ****. They broke while I tried to install them. Use sparco hood pins.

why is this really neccessary??? Im asking cause I have a friend that just got a carbon fiber hood but has no hood pins and is always breaking the speed limit.........

 

That's why they're saying it's insurance. Not every CF hood is going to flip up. I have a friend who's gone 3 years with no hood pins in his CF hood, and there haven't been issues. I have another friend who had his hood come up 2 separate times when he forgot to latch the hood pins. Both times were at only 40mph.

But I would run them, $25 is a lot cheaper than a new windshield. Plus, sometimes the hood is ruined. And these days, there are so many cheap eBay and junk CF hoods out there, having seen the quality of those hoods and misaligned latch points, I wouldn't think of installing a CF hood without hoodpins.

imo it looks a lot cleaner w/o hood pins...but if you are racing, its a must...
