WILL A D16Y8 DISTRIBUTOR FIT ON A D16Z6?

 

dont know if they fit or not

but one is odb2 and the z6 is odb1

the connectors wont fit unless you rewire it

i remember reading something about it couple months ago

 

oh i will explain now... i am going to be putting a d16z6 motor into a 98 ex coupe switching all sensors.. fuel rail and fuel injectors and i wanted to know if it would bolt up or not.. i did search for it btw

 

vtec ones will not fit on nonvtec motors and vice versa, mountings are different

no im going to be using the d16y8 distributor on a d16z6 will it bolt up?

 

No, because the y8 is OBD2, while your z6 OBD1 you'll have wiring issues.

That is incorrect. Some non-vtec and vtec distributors like the y7 and y8 are identical. However the z6 distributor is different from the b7 so it will not be interchangable.

can someone just please answer my question.. i am putting a 95 d16z6 motor in a 98 ex car that had a d16y8 at once... i am swapping everything over... all the sensors injectors and everything to make it compatable with the obd2...

if my Z6 dizzy can (simply) bolt up to a Y8 than i'm guessing... YES.

God if you don't know what you are talking about, just don't talk ait???
There is no such thing as a vtec dizzy.

I might be mistaken (it's been a while since I was all into the d series and stuff. I might be wrong but y8/y7 dizzys got the same bolt pattern as a obdI dizzies (except z6 and jdm d15b, same thing). So I don't think that y8 dizzy will bolt up to a z6 head, but you can either bolt it up with either 1 or 2 bolts, and I've also heard of people using a dremel to make bolt holes bigger.

You can also take a z6 dizzy and convert it to a obdII plug.

 

why don't you just convert everthing to obd1? everone seems to do that when they boost the newer year cars.

 

Okay, here is the correct answer.

The y8 dizzy that you have will not directly work with your z6, you'll have to convert it to OBD1 first.

no it won't, bolts don't line up. He will need to convert a z6 dizzy to OBDII if he is trying to use it in a obdII car.

Or he can dremel the y8 out and make it hold on by 2 bolts.

so many newbies these days, that just say whatever they want.

You know, your rash responses are clear that you don't understand what the people who are posting in your thread are even saying. The possibility of it working from you holding it in your hand to sticking it on the engine are directly related to OBD1 or OBD2. IF it happens to bolt up, whether you modifying the bolt holes or not, the OBD situation is that the sensors are different so they will need to be modified.

There are no OBD2 sensors on the d16z6 because its not OBD2. If you're gonna use it then YES, YOU WILL BE CONVERTING. Geez, why's that so hard to understand?

If you don't understand the principles of OBD then I don't know how you're going to accomplish this swap, especially because youre planning on putting an OBD1 engine into an OBD2 car.

like i said above.. im going to be putting the obd 2 sensors into the d16z6 taking the obd1's out... i do understand obd's... i just wanted a simple answer.. not get into this whole tech bla bla.... just will it bolt up or not... it doesnt matter what obd because i am switching everything over to the z6.... this is already a big hassle.. i was gonna save the guy 500 bucks buy going to my guy to get the z6 for 200 other than 700 for a y8..

 

it will bolt up but for a stock car, the wiring connectors wont work 1st of all. 2nd the timing on a z6 is 16deg while the y8 is 12deg. [im wondering if it affects the dizzy side or the cam side?]

i am going to be putting all of the obd2 stuff on the z6.... ie sensors injectors everything.... and im going to be using the obd2 harness... but this is getting too complicated nobody can tell me yes it will fit or no it wont fit so im just gonna tell the guy to get another y8 for 700 and hope it doesnt have the same problem as the rest of them... thank you for all the unusefull compliments everyone else... a simple yes or no would have worked well but its cool

D15B2/D16A6 - D15B7 - D16Y7/D16Y8 all have the same bolt pattern

D16Z6 - JDM D15B - D15Z1 have the same bolt pattern

<U>No</U> OBD2 distributor bolts directly up to the D16Z6. You can drill out the holes for a D16Y8 dizzy and it might work, but i'm not guaranteeing anything.

First off, d16y7 and d16y8 distributors are the same. I’m currently running a mini-me (Y7 engine block and distributor, everything else Y8), and it works fine.

I also have a Z6 distributor laying around my house, and the mounting brackets have a different pattern (than Y7/Y8), the holes do NOT line up. I’d take a picture, but I’m leaving for the airport, cheers.
