dyno tuning help
i'm plannin on dyno tuning my jdm b18c soon, i want to do it myself because for one, paying someone is expensive as **** and nobody around here does uberdata, and also i want the experience myself. I'm going to be tuning with uberdata on a jdm p72 after i get it chipped, i'll also have cam gears. what is a good procedure to start with, cams first, spark first, fuel first what? i realize it probably dosn't matter cuz it'll get done, but i don't want to take steps backwards and have to redo stuff. also on the cams whats best to start with as far as degreeing. thanks in advance guys

You know that a good dyno costs around $100,000.00. I think I would rather pay $175 an hour to have it done right. Doesn't seem too expensive compared to a dyno machine.

what the hell does the cost of the machine have to do with the cost of dyno tuning? that statement doesn't even make sense. and who said it will be done wrong anyway?
honestly, if you have to ask us how to tune your setup then you shouldn't be doing it at all. i'd just pay someone that knows what they're doing to do it for you. better to dish out a few hundred dollars then dish out several thousand to replace the motor you blew.

The best way to learn is to have a tuner show explain the procedure while he tunes your car.

if that was everyones attitude, then nobody would be able to do it. I've always done all the work on my car. if that was my attitude i still wouldn't be able to change my oil, sometimes you just have to do it. and i know enough not to blow my motor, its not like i have some built race machine. i'm just trying to squeeze out some extra power with my mods runnin 93octane

Tuning is very complicated or can be if you havent been around a tuner working there magic. The slightest couple mistakes can lead to a nightmare. But since you asked tune the cams, then fuel. Get the fuel right is very tricky it hard and complicated to explain with out a graph. You say you want to dyno tune your car so is someone just going to let you use there dyno and wideband??? Im a little confused??? Clearify where the dyno is coming from, if a local shop has it then ask if you can watch while there tuning it and try to understand what is going on. Other then you getting on a dyno with a computer and wideband not knowing exactly what is doing what then i would stay away. But i can help if you can clearify what you exactly wanting to do and how
nobody around here dyno tunes anyway except one place that i don't trust, and they only do hondata anyway. but like i said i want to do it myself anyway. most places let you use their dyno on a per hour basis. and i don't understand what you're confused about. i want to put my car on a dyno, and tune it. they have a wideband, i don't know of any dynos that don't have widebands

If no one dyno tunes and there is only one shop that does, and you don't trust them, you going to use their dyno? Last time I checked, no ******* shop in their right mind let any fucktard with a chipped ecu and a laptop jump on their dyno. Where are you coming up with this ****?

I've been to 3 dynos in the area, and they all let you tune your OWN car. whats the problem bud? its my car, they are not liable, so why would they care? if i blow up my engine its not their problem. and why the hostility? its really not good for you

if the shop is new (few years) and has newer dynos, run by a bunch of "gurus" than yes, they wont let you touch it, but they will be glad to advance their "guru" status by learning on your car, and hopefully not putting a hole in your engine...
To original poster, just buy a WB and tune on the street.
Lots of those dynojets are **** anyway, and unless they run dynapack with some real controled conditions to boot, you are just stressing your engine for average results.
It is much easier to blow up your engine on the dyno than on the road...
AFR on the dyno, takes skill, but only because a good tuner can extrapolate based on the previous experience and guess proper correction to put you where you need to be once the car is on the street.
Anyway good luck...
