Default gsr tranny hard to shift on 1st,2nd gear....

Hey everyone,

I'm having some problems shifting into 1st and 2nd gear on my jdm b18c. when I'm at neutral on a red light or so and i shift to 1st its really hard, going from 1st to 2nd is hard too, and 3rd is a bit hard but not as bad as 1st and 2nd gear. 4th and 5th are fine. what could this be? i had swapped the original motor out for a 94 jdm b18c into my EG civic 2 years ago and since has put 13,000 miles on it. but i haven't driven the car in like 5 months cause i moved out to cali temporarily. i bled the hydraulic lines and it was fine, changed the manual tranny fluid, could it be the syncros? the shift linkage looks okay. any ideas i would greatly appreciate it.

Thanx!

i was gonna say clutch master cylinder but it sounds like you got that covered. try fresh honda mtf? always check the stupidest possible explanation first.

yeah I changed it over to genuine honda manual tranny fluid, i looked again by the clutch and it looks like that rubber seal on clutch master cylinder was leaking a bit. it does grind sometimes shifting up when im driving it hard. otherwise if i take my time easy driving then shifting doesn't grind but still hard to shift . any other ideas? has anyone encountered something like this before? how hard is it to fix personally, or you think i should just have the shop that i got it swapped at take a look at it. thanx guys!

It's a Honda thing. I just had my tranny swapped from an AT/MT on my EJ1 the tranny fluid was replaced with Honda MTF and it's hard to put it into 1st/2nd. Same thing on my '87 Accord, just the way it is.

yea sometimes at stoplights i have to go to 2nd, to get into 1st. apparently a lot of preludes are like this too. :: but yeah, if there's fluid coming out of your clutch master cylinder seal, replacing that may help/solve your problem. the part was about $70 at honda for my accord. can't be too bad for the gsr. good luck!

also, the tranny linkage could be misaligned/bent. things are off just by a bit it makes your life suck.

i think it might be your clutch or smaster/slave clutch cylinders. you mentioned that you grind during high rpms, well that means your syncros are going bad

Your best bet is to take the tranny case apart and inspect your gears and synchros, if you know what to look for youll see whats worn out and were its been grinding. Im inclined to say that most likely it will be synchros that need attention. Another thing to inspect is your clutch disk, make sure the springs are not breaking off that some times causes a hard shift too. Good luck!
