DIY CAI? Anyone?
Hello,
This is my first post on this site. I just bought a 2001 Accord LX with a V-tec 4. This is my first Honda. I know that CAI are easy to come by with Hondas. Does anyone have pics on how to install a CAI? Or just some steps? I seached for this topic but couldn't find it for the accords. I read something about taking the intake out and there is some plastic stuff that extends into the fender. How do you take the fender off?
Please help a Honda Newbie!

Well welcome to this lovely site. The bumper removal is very much the same on most hondas (with some small differences). Usually, there is a at the rear most part that connects to the fender above the wheel-well. Pull back the fender liner and remove that with a #2 phillips. Then under the front bumper towards the front there is usually 5-6 10mm bolts. Finally between the headlights above the grill there should be some. For most CAI's you do remove the bumper.
The CAI is one of the most basic installs and if it's ur first gives ya a sense of accomplishment. Have fun.
PS... oh yeah by the way it's vtec not vtech. vtech is a phone company. people will flame ya if you call it that.

LOL the man's looking out fer ya. CAI in these cars is a waste of time, 3 or less whp. I have been told it is great though for sound. Well my cord is a daily driver I dont need more "sound".
I posted a topic on CAI HP performance, many ppl told me the gains were very minimal. So I am getting a short ram under $100 bucks. Or maybe just the filter.
Dont waste $200 dollars.

much more sound..non noticable power gains. though you'll think you have more power because of the sound..
find one used or buy a cheap ebay intake. it's all good. just dont expect really anything except a much deeper ,noticable tone.

Thanks for the tip on VTEC! I'm a computer guy so I immediately think tech not tec. Anyway, I like the looks of a CAI under the hood. That is why I'm doing it, and the sound. I had a cone filter on my last car and it sounded good.
Does anyone know if you loose MPG by adding a CAI? I would think so since your feeding the engine more air.
Also, any pics of a 4cyl. Accord with a CAI? Just wanted to see what it looks like.
Thanks for all your help!

Actually you would get better fuel economy because of the smoother air flow that is less restrictive. What WILL decrease your gas mileage is stomping on the gas pedal all the time to hear your CAI. Most of the time your gas will be slightly lower since most people tend to do this when they purchase one.....

im in the progress of figuring out if my CAI helped my mileage any. i did manage to get around 20 mpg the first week i had it installed..but i have babied it since then. no noticable increase in gas mileage, but i havnt done a true interstate mileage check.. but im not expecting anything huge.

sweet pic!
I am looking on ebay for a CAI. They are cheap. I figure, as long as I put a good filter on the end, what difference does the piping make? It's just aluminum tubing.

True it better to get a knock off CAI or SRI and swap it out with a K and N filter or something better. Well my CAI was used for 6 months and got it for $75

Not for the 6th gen. Do not waste your time by removing the bumper.
