Hit it now before it gets worse.

Your issue isn't even bad.

Screwdriver/Wire brush it all back and then hit it with POR-15 (but don't remove ALL the rust, the POR-15 NEEDS rust to bond well.

well i love this car but i was wondering if it was worth it to fix.. because i bought her 2 days ago at $1600 for a DX model at 128k with no ac and stereo but clean title.........

how do i fix it with POR-15? just wire brush it off and spray it on? im not so familiar with POR-15 how many types are there? and what about the hole i made on the rocker cover? how should i seal it up?

i love drivin the crx , i've own rx7 , mr2 before and i would say crx can match up very well with those car mentioned..... impressed me very much for a daily driver.....so i hope someone can help me out with this cancer the poor car has.......sigh*

some pics of the car.... what do u think for $1600?

I take a small flathead screwdriver and chip back all the rust I can. I pop it through all the holes I can, and scrape up all the paint that will come up.

Then I POR-15 it all (you could buy the starter kit, $20 IIRC) with a little brush.
Great stuff.

My rocker panels were similar. I just Dremeled off ALL the rusted areas, let it flash rust, and then POR-15'ed it all up. When I put that plastic panel back on, one can't tell.

But remember, POR-15 WILL NOT STICK TO PAINT! It will peel off of anything that isn't rusty or etched. Otherwise it holds like a *****!

For the wheel well areas, I Fiberglassed them. POR-15 works REALLY well w/ Fiberglass (You can even use the FG mat w/ the POR-15). But, under the metal of that rocker panel is prob more rust, best to dremel it all out and take care of it that way.

OH! AND TAKE OUT THOSE STUPID RUBBER STRIPS IN YOUR WHEEL WELLS!!!
They trap dirt and water, and cause SUPER rusting.

thanks for the explaination but i havent really work on a car body before so any website with step by step picture tutorial will be good if anyone know of any

dremel it as in just sand it with a dremel? or what bits do u use(drill? )

and i dont understand why they want to put those plastic rocker cover thing... it just traps dirt and moisture on the body panel.... anyone has ever ditched these for something else?

nice rex... wish i still got my rex...

but compare to the rust i had in my rex i still tried to fix that beloved rust bucket of mine... all you can do is grind down with a grinding or a rust wheeler until you hit bare metal.. then coat it with that NAVALJELLY... after washing it down ... immediately coat it with primer... this is a repeated process until you hit all the spots where you got rust...

* note of caution this only slows down the process and does not totally get rid of that cancer... the only way to get rid of that cancer out is actually cuting clean metal around that rust area... and fabricating/ metal sheetwork repair... i dont really know how far and serious you are in restoring your rex... but this process is not as complicated as i make it seem...

does anyone ever experienced water leaking through the rear hatch? cause today i found lots of shirt stuffed into the plastic compartment on my rear shocks etc.... so i dont know what the ex-owner did.... so now im thinking if there were leaks how i could check it....

or was it just for sound proofing or reduce squeking sound?

I just found rust like this on my CRX. It is rusted on the rear corner panel between the door jame and the wheel well. Right where you put the jack. How much do you think would cost to fix that?

some times the water comes from the tail light gaskets, remove the tails and selicon(sp?) them(both sides) to make sure water doesnt get in there.
