Default My Project. (picture)

Hey Everyone. I picked up this 97 Prelude for $900. It came with the Greddy Lip, Injen Intake, Greddy SP exhaust and has already been lower. it belong to a girl.
she drove it on low oil and Rod #1 broke off

Now my question is since I have a Spare H23 block sitting in the garage from my 95 prelude si.
What parts do I need to swap from the H22 onto the H23 block to make it work?
I know everyone is going to tell me to buy another H22 but I dont have anymore money
and money is tight right now due to college.
I've read and seen people do H23/Vtec but all there H23/Vtec is from people that already have a H23 and putting on a Vtec Head

I've never read about anyone that already have a H22 and putting a H23 Block and keeping the OBDII.
so far I know I have to swap the H22 oil pump and the sensor on it along with the lower timing gear, and that I need to swap over the knock sensor onto the block and run H22 Timing belt and Water pump right?
Please help I need to get the car running ASAP..

Here is the picture. sorry you cant really see it ..

thats my Turbo 240 next to it hehe.

You have to run the H22 head if you're going to run the stock Crank timing belt gear. (kinda looks like meat wad from Aqua teen HF) H22 Water pump (# of teeth are different for the belt) But It will be fine and definately faster than just the H23. Don't forget to remove the oil control orifice from the center of the block. (H23, top of the deck in line with the oil filter. there isn't one on the H22 for oiling to the VTEC solenoid and other) Also - you forgot to mention using the obdII Distributor. That's about it though. Your programing will be a little off because you will now have higher compression. This just doesn't sound like a project you should tackle. Specially if you're asking these questions. But if you're like me, you're going to do it anyway.

Good luck.

Why do you have to get it running so soon?
You have another vehicle. The turbo 240.

the h22 and h23 blocks are the same. if you keep the internals from the h22 and put them in the h23 itll be no different from an h22. my 4th gen h22 hydrolocked so i replaced a piston rod and the block reused all the h22 internals. 3000 miles on it and no problems. note: there are a couple oil port/holes/whatever you want to call em that are blocked off in and h23, just unblock em for conversion.

plikit: so do I just get a H22 head Gasket put it on the H23 block and look at the holes I need to unblock?
yeah I cant keep the stock H22 internail the #1 cylinder bearing melted onto the crank the the Rod Snaped and the piston cracked

Did you get the H23 block line-bored to fit the 5th Gen H22 crank? H23 has 50mm mains, and the H22 5th gen H22 has 55 mm mains.

whoa didnt even notice we were talkin about 5th gens. pic didnt load the first time and i totally missed the "97." to be honest i dont know the differences in the 5th gen h22s. in my case i had a 94 h22 and replaced the h22 block with a 92-96 h23 block. the difference with h22s and h23s in 4th gens is the stroke, which makes one a 2.2L and the other a 2.3L. By using all h22 parts in an h23 you then have an h22 stroke and therefore actually an h22. but as AndyD said the mains are different sizes so youll have to get it bored. theres probably a list of other differences too, unfortunately i cant help ya. sorry about the confusion and good luck to ya tho.

Ahhhh, that makes more sense now. Swapping parts from H22A4's to H22A1's and H23A1's, and vice versa gets pretty tricky.

If it were me in your situation, I would get an Accord F23 bottmend and mate the H22 head to it. After I was done, I wouldn't rev it more than 7K rpm if you don't get the crank balanced. Mmmmmm, bottmend tq.

It would probably be cheaper to do it this way too since H22 parts are much more expecnsive compared to F23 parts.

If you are trying to keep it OBD2 then all you need to swap on from the block is the oil pump, crank angle sensor, the lower timing gear and waterpump... And remove the oil control orifice from the top of the h23 block... The H23 already has a knock sensor...

Note: For anyone who doesn't understand why you have to switch oil pumps, it is because only OBD2 oil pumps have the mounting holes for the crank angle sensor...
