Default Dead alternator

Is it possible for a high compression(13.5:1) motor to kill what was a fine and working alternator?

Because my new red top battery won't hold a charge for long, so I assume that it's the alternator. There aren't any open circuits or anything like that. What else could it be?

They still wont be able to give you a definate answer unless you take it off and they bench it. At lest that what they told me after they did an alternator test.
