Default Exhaust problems

I was at the shop today trying to fix a rattle in my exhaust and my cat, which is as old as the car and completely rusted out, ripped off from the exhaust. I now have no cat, but the rest of the exhaust is fine. Has anyone ever replaced their cat with pipe? Advanced sells exhaust piping, and I'd like to just slip a piece in between the back and the downpipe. I also have no access to welding, so it has to be done by clamping.

I pieced together a functional exhaust with no converter or resonator. It sounds horrible and it's kinda shaky, but it should last me till I get to Houston, where I'm going to get help from my dad. There I'll also be able to weld.
