dpfi intake mani on vtec head?????????
im not sayin that i want to do this and i know its dumb but i was jus wondering if its possible to put a vtec head in a ef dx and keep the dpfi and still have vtec? i know you couldnt use any vtec ecu's but ive heard of people using non vtec ecu's and jus using a vtec controller to engauge the vtec. it all sounds like a bunch of jerry rigging but i was bored and tought of it
Just gone thru this adventure onna '89.. Si though.
D16z6 Vtech motor.. Needs Oil switch and the corresponding ECU P28 and some rewiring to make it live in the OBD0 car.
Rev switch can work.. but general consensus is it's only easy performance is lame.. Really do gotta go with the Vtec ECU so the Fuel maps are correct for performance. .. Note that the price for 'all the Bits' gets right up there tho..
AND when all is said and done the perf increase over an Si is marginal at best.. Spending a few coins onna Existing Si engine yields better result... with much less hassle.
But you should read up on this topic... wherever you can.. to get a variety of opinions.. we all have one :-)

I'm going to say yes.
But you will need a different ECU. You can use a pm6, pr3, or pr4 perhaps more but that is all I can really say. These OBD-O ecus can be chipped for vtec.
Polypill is making me a pr4 right now. IM him he knows his stuff.. I'll let you know how mine works out.

The bolt pattern is the same on the DPFI manifolds so it will bolt up to the SOHC VTEC head. The thing is, you will see better results doing a regular DPFI to MPFI swap than you would doing a mini-me VTEC head swap and keeping it DPFI.
If you choose to do the head swap and keep it DPFI then you have no choice than to stick with the PM5 DPFI ECU. You can wire the VTEC solenoid to a simple RPM switch to activate it, although it's not the best way to go about it but neither is a DPFI mini-me
