Default Noob with a broke 91 HF crx

Well here's my problem; A couple months ago my friend was driving my car and it died at the intersection. When he tried to crank it the car would start and idle for a couple seconds and then die. I tried to read the engine code but no CIL ever came on. I let it sit for a couple months due to economic concerns and a lack of urgency to the project. Then I tried to start it again today for a mechanic friend of mine so he could offer inputs to the problem. Now it won't start and makes a high frequency cranking noise. I'm used to working on old schools so i have no experience on hondas so I don't even know where to start. Is the high pitched crank normal for a 4 cylinder? I guess i'm totally lost on this project and would really appreciate any advice. Thanks for reading.
