Default Rug Doctor?

Has anyone out there used a Rug Doctor to clean their interiors with any success?

I just picked up a DB8 GS-R and the previous owner seems to have spilled coffee or cola on the carpets and in between the seats....a few times. The floor mats look pretty dirty as well. I would rather not pay someone to clean it if I have the capability of cleaning it myself.

I'm not sure if I want to invest my time and money if it doesn't work very well.

Yeah, but the question is how well does it clean the carpet. I could use some soap and water and it would clean it to some degree, but I'm looking for more than that.

I'd like to hear from others who have used a Rug Doctor with great success. Have you used a Rug Doctor in your car? If so, how well does it work?

just rent it out, use simple green or whatever solution that best fit your needs, and if your not satisfied just ask for your money back. Safeway has good customer service. Vons in SoCal.

I'm worried that it won't extract enough of the water out and as a result, my carpet and floor mats will have some sort of bad odor.

I guess I can give it a try. I'll be sure to post it up in the usual before and after fashion, complete with pics.

<U>To clean my my Civic's light grey carpet I used this:</U>

The Hoover Steam Vac comes with powered brush hand tool, especially made for car carpets. (You can see it in the picture, in the compartment on the top of the base.)

Result: The Hoover did a great job cleaning the carpet. It looked much brighter and clean. But the dark soda stains I had could not be removed, they were just lightened.

I am not sure if dark stains can be removed, you might have to have it professionally cleaned.

Hope that helps

I'll tell you what... During the summer months I work for a school district and clean the buildings up from the little bastards who smear glue and crap into everything.
If youre going to try a rug dr, be sure that you get some carpet stain remover on it before you do anything - let it soak for like 10-15mins and THEN use the shampoo and steam it.
Chances are, if its been there for awhile, it wont come up.

I disagree with that. I detail cars for a living and if the owner is willing to pay, we can pretty much get any stain out.

This past week, I have completely removed blood stains from a beige volvo carpet, massive coffee stains from a beige accord carpet. Moldy dogfood stains from a marroon caravan carpet, countless soda and juice stains, etc..

We have a machine to extract bad dirt spots, but it doesnt really work too well on worked in stains like blood or fruit punch. It's called an extractor. You might be able to rent one from a local janitorial or chemical supply place.

For worked in stains, we use a carpet stain remover that my company has made custom. Just soak the area, let it sit for 10 minutes and scrub with a medium/hard short bristle plastic brush.

The guy that said take it out and bring it to the car wash, that is another option. We do that on real, real bad floor mats. We detailed the interior of an f-350 work truck that drove dirty lawn workers around for a few years, and the whole interior looked showroom new when we were done.

here are some before/after pics of what I did using a spray bottle, some Woolite, a brush, a shop vac, and a whole lotta elbow grease :

here's a great writeup by GSRStilez over at Autopia http://autopia.org/forum/showthread.php?t=43947

He uses a generic APC (All Purpose Cleaner) but I like using Woolite... also I've heard that 303 Carpet Cleaner(http://www.autopia-carcare.com/303-30551.html) works really well.

As for what pdiggitydogg was saying about using an extractor... they have expensive extractors that spray out steam/hot water and suck it back up. What you're doing with this is rinsing out the carpet. They're pretty pricey though, and you can pretty much get away with just using a shopvac to extract the leftover water. Just make sure to rinse the carpet out really well so you get all the soap out.

Read that thread that I linked and try it out. As you can see from the pictures above, I got a lot of stains out using a similar method.

btw in case you guys were wondering how it got so dirty under my passenger seat, a Dr. Pepper can had exploded under my seat one day

The stain had been there for a good 3-4 years before I did this, so most stains will indeed come out.
