I would just sell the swap you have and get a '96-'00 Civic swap, it would be much easier.

What does this even mean? He got a B16, not a D16. 1996, 1997, and 1998 didn't have a B-Series in any of their Civics. All you can upgrade to is a D16Y8 with those years. It's obvious he wants a B-Series. So, the B16A2 out of the 1999-2000 Honda Civic Si is what your answer should've been.

Question, why did you buy an OBD-0 B16 WITHOUT knowing if it can even be swapped? I'm still puzzled by this notion and I say the same thing every week; Why do people buy items without knowing if it will work?

Maybe he got the engine for free or something like that, but it will not pass emissions either way. You can put a newer engine in an older car, but you cant put an older engine in a newer car. Just get rid of it and put the money towards a swap out of the 99-00 Si as deemeetree mentioned

i guess this is not the way to go. i didnt get the motor for free but i gave up my garrett t3 turbo for it, so even if i sell it, ill make some profit.

what makes this swap so hard and why the headaches.

88-91 OBD 0
92-95 OBD I
96-98 OBD IIA
99-00 OBD IIB

The thing that makes the swap such a pain in the *** is that the diagnostics systems are very different, since you are jumping about two generations. Not to mention they will slap you right on the *** for emissions, that is the biggest concern right there.

96-00 swap could be a jdm ctr or sir swap, all 96-00, or a b16a2 from usdm si

well i live in hawaii, theres no emissions, so i dont care about that. i meant on the motor, is there a mark on it to determine if its obd0,1, or 2. cuz im probably gonna pick it up from a friend, and i just wanna make sure before i buy another obd0.

IF you are in Hawii, a Jdm motor may be out of the question, I'm sue anthing shipped to HI is a bitch, meaning cost a lot. If you have themotor and it is obd 0 , your best bet would prolly be to convert both the motor and your car to Obd 1, although I know nothing about HI emissions, if emissions is a problem you, then you will need to do what demetree said and get an 99-00 si motor, then your only is would be the difference between obd2a and obd2b . also if you went with the si motor all you would need is a conversion harness 2a>2b then add the wires for vtec and knock.. good luck let us know which route you decide to go and then we can help you more, if you need it

well you are right about the shipping, but the shops down here that import jdm motors ****** rim you. to do a complete B16A2 swap they were gonna charge me close to $5000. so hmotorsonline is not looking so bad, even if i only buy a longblock. so i took your guys advice i have the siR for sale, i looked for a obd1 or obd2 B16 and those bad boys are pretty pricy. for 2450 i can get a complete obd1 b16. for 2100 i can get a complete obd1 h22. the power numbers on the h22 are great. i should know considering my other car is a prelude. is swapping an obd1 h22 into my car easier or harder than the obd0 siR motor? please let me know. cuz i think i might wanna go that route. but only if its possible. see i check before i buy. thanks again.

If you can't swap the 1st gen B16 into the 98 civic, then H22 is even harder.

If I were you, I would try to look for a hydro tranny, 0bd II b16 intake manifold with all the sensors and maybe a different Distributor and give it a try. I don't know if you can do that or not thought.

If he gets the 99-00 Si swap he doesnt need to get a jumper harness. He can use the Si harness and the ecu and everything will be as easy as pulling the old motor out and dropping the new one in. The 99 DX is already obd2b so its a direct swap. He can use all the factory mounts with the exception of the rear bracket, you need the si rear bracket. Get the SI shift linkage also and you will need to buy some axles too.

I have an 89 B16 in my 97 EX, wasn't that bad. I just converted the motor to OBDII so evertying would work for smog.
