does cam gears & shafts make a difference?
Wassup guys! I just got my first honda. Its a 96' Integra GSR. Bought it with all your basic bolt ons, i/h/e, intake manifold, msd, fuel rail, fuel regulator. Anyways, i want to add some more goodies. I want to get Skunk 2 cam gears and shafts, but i got a lot of buddies saying they dont really make a difference and i have some that says, yeah they do. So i'm coming to you guys for your opinions. Is it worth the $? Thanks!
Cam gears wont do much with stock cams unless your car is boosted or sprayed. But: if you are getting more aggressive cams cam gears are usually a must.Just make sure you get them installed correctly and the gears tuned.
As far as "bang for the buck" is concerned. IMO I dont think spending $300 on cams and 150-200 on gears is worth the 15-20whp if lucky.I mean **** $500 is half the price of a homemade turbo kit or zex 50 shot with fuel managment.
If you want to stay all motor and spend 500-600 on parts plus whatever for labor for a kick in power you might not necessarily feel go right ahead. Its your car, your money, and your goals.Do some searches theres many threads in here that can give you answers and options you can weigh to make a final decision on whats right for you.
If you do decide to get some cams and cam gears get the civic type R oem cams, and rotate valve springs, and maybe a set of AEM cam gears to keep it cheap.

if you have enough compression for some good cam shaft then be my guest.
**when getting some cam shaft, getcam gears too and have them dyno tune it.
usually the cam gears will open up the power band...
