Default engine rebuild question

My engine got water logged last night is a flood and I took off the valve cover and the oil looked like mud. All the oil in the oil pan looked like mud the car would start but, smoke and run like **** is their any way to fix it or do I have to rebuild the engine from top to bottom?

Default Re: engine rebuild question (adeline)

Try changing the oil first. If it gets better then problem solved. If it doesn't perform both a leakdown and compression test to determine the health of the engine. If the tests come up bad then it is time for a rebuild. My guess since it runs it might be ok since usually when a car gets hydrolocked the rods will bend since they ae trying to compress an incompressible fluid(water)
