Default ls over h22?? HUH!

Okay I was out with some of my buddies last night racing and we lined up a crx with a b18b aginst a VERY nice prelude with an h22 and it wasnt even a contest. The crx blew him off the line and the prelude never caught up. This has made me think... i have a del sol with a b16 and i cant keep up with either one.. I was thinking of keeping my b16 tranny and putting a b18b in and eventually after i get the money do the ls/vtec... its either this or just wait and get a b18c1 .. any opinions or other options are welcome... and i was just curious if anyone has an explanation as to how in the hell the crx won... thanks.

CRX - ~2000 lbs/~130lbs torque

Prelude - ~2800-3000lbs/~150-160lbs torque

and that's saying that the B18B was stock.

EDIT

Oh yeah, the H22 driver might've sucked.

Just a plain-old non-VTEC LS is going to be a step down from your B16A. Don't bother unless you plan to go LS-VTEC. Or you could go GSR. Or even H22A. Keep in mind that the Del Sol weighs a good bit more than the CRX. So you can't use a CRX with an LS swap as any indication of what your Del Sol would do with an LS motor.

It seems you can't get out of your head the LS crx beating the H22 prelude--it also seems like you think the LS motor will be great in your del sol. The only reason the crx won is weight. A stock 97 Prelude is probably a 15.5-15.8 car on street tires. Going to an LS is a down grade IMO. Keep the b16 UNLESS you want to do an LS/VTEC--it just simply makes more sense.

Well it would be better to put the ls motor in right now then doing later because switching out a block isn't that easy.

I say find you an LS motor and build you an LS/Vtec!

I used to have a B16 in my Hatch, and after spinning a bearing I dropped in a B18b and mated it to my B16 tranny. It was one of the most fun cars I ever drove and way better IMO than the modded B16 that I had.

It is more of a power to weight ratio thing, and a del sol is pretty heavy!

B16 No pull, no power! Fun in lightweight cars but not in heavier.

B18b the torque would a lil more fun to drive especially mated to a B16 tranny, but you still wont be happy.

B18C In your heavy Del Sol this is probably your best choice. You will have more power and torque, and a more reliable motor than the LS/Vtec.

LS/Vtec If you are on a budget then this is the way to go.

hmm i guess i didnt know that the del sol was so heavy .. i figured since it didnt have a back seat it was already lighter... hmm well i think im gonna go ahead and get the ls motor monday .. its gonna be a while till i can afford to do the lsvtec.. should i use the b16 tranny?? i heard ill have to shift to 5th before i finish a quarter... i was thinkin an ls tranny would be too long and definatly not good after i go with the lsvtec and a gsr tranny is way too much for my budget so what tranny should i get?? also is there any major things i can do for weight reduction? i already took off the ac compressor and the power steering pump. thanks.

rumors rumors rumors.

the del sol is not that heavy. the lightest is a 93 si at 2,295. The heaviest is 2,522, a 97 del sol VTEC, with a b16. weigh that up to the only other car with a b16 stock, a 99-00 si at 2,612. get the $600 LS and put your head on it.

swapping the b16 for the b18b wont make you any happier really.......

hybrid_vtec.. I would love more than anything to trade u this b16 tranny for that gsr but for some reason i think ur kidding lol.. but anyway i couldnt cheat u like that cuz this tranny whines a lil and grinds to 3rd and i ono if its cuz of the damn short shifter or its the tranny itself cuz if im not gettin on it really fast there is no grind at all but when im racing it grinds everytime... .. plus u got me with the lil face haha
