Default Turbo insulation kits/wraps

Has anyone here have used them? Or have any experience with them?
I've been seeing them around and wondering how effective they are.

Insulating wraps like the one on the link below.

Yeah, the thermo-tech one. The blanket works good for awhile. Then it discolors and eventually falls apart. The fiberglass wrap is good, but it gets so brittle after a while that you can't touch it without scraping some of it off.

These are basically race products. You can't buy them expecting them to last more than 20,000 miles.

Now, these blankets are nice:

20,000 miles seems pretty decent to me. I only drive about 5000-7000 miles a year. If that turbo wrap last 3 years before I need to replace them, that would seem pretty okay with me. 100 bux every 3 years isn't so bad.

Question: By wrapping the turbo, you help lower under-hood temps. Is that basically the only point of a turbo-wrap?
I've seen the claim "helps spool up faster", but still not sure how the wrap is going to help with that.
What about heat-soak? Are you going to do damage to your turbo over time by not letting it radiate the heat?

some of those descriptions for the heat wrap on the turbo say turbos run better when they are hot, which sounds like bullshit. I have the black fiberglass exhaust wrap on my DP, which is now brown and falling off after like 5 months of driving. It does insulate very well though, I can touch it after like an hour of driving and it wont melt off my fingerprints.
