An idea for that 'unsightly' front license plate...
Would it be legal to attach your front license plate, using suction cups, to the windshield up behind the rear view mirror? So the top of the plate would be flush with the headliner. It would block the sun too.
Yes, my state requires them. I actually got pulled over for not having one awhile back!

ditto.
i even argued it in court because the law(in oregon) only states that it has to be on the front of the car and visible. the judge told me to shove it, more or less.

i have been doing this for years and i know its legal in maryland not sure else where....i folded the bottom of the tag around to the back then folded the top half 90 degrees, when you go to bolt it up flip it and bolt the tag so that it faces strait up. then just fold tag down over the bolts and its slimmer and no bolt holes can be seen. DO NOT CUT THE TAG JUST FOLD IT, if you cut you can get a ticket for destroying gov't property. here are some pics of my 2 tegs........

Hmm that looks real cool. Sorta thought it was a Euro plate at first.

Most of these things, as you prolly know, are up the states. OH may be different from TX and OR. In TX, that's definitely illegal.
I like the idea though.
And kudos to whoever tried the behind-the-mirror-thing! I like creative thinking. Any other ideas?

thats actually NOT legal in maryland. just because you havent been pulled over doesnt mean you can still do it, police just have better things to do ( unless of course you live in HoCo )

I've got a (yakima) roof rack and I'm thinking of putting it up there. But not sure yet. Although, I suppose that wouldn't be legal either. It's not at 'the front.'
JDMDan, that exactly what I'll be doing soon. Luckily I live in Canada and the cops are a lot less **** about stuff like that. Adding a turbo and removing the cat isn't even really illegal here. The only thing the cops seem to care about is what color your lights are and how fast you drive.
i'm in tx and have been driving around w/out a front plate for 3+ years and no ticket =D. i probably just jinxed myself though.
as far as the windshield/mirror thing. i figure if you're going to get ticketed for having the plate in the windshield, might as well not have one at all. (for texas atleast)

a couple years ago i got pulled over for having my plate on my window... i asked the cop why and he said that it wasnt secure to my vehicle. the cop said that if it was taped onto my windshield it would be ok. i dont know if its true but i thought id like to share.

or just save yourself the trouble and hassle of getting pulled over and just put it on the front

i have actually had a conversation with not 1 but 3 cops about this, one MD state trooper actually took back a ticket once he found out that i didnt cut it....the law states the tag must be on the front of the vehicle and must be legible, which it is. even a ocean city cop didnt care that i had it that way and front tag tickets are there specialty down there.i have only been questioned for the tag by cops never ticketed and i have done the trick to my 2 tegs and countless cars at my shop with front mounts etc, not to mention i told the cops strait up if im putting the tag on the front im doing it my way!. so even if it is illegal the cops dont care as long as its not cut up, but that prolly differs state to state
As of September 1st, we no longer have to have a front liscence plate in Texas. The law was passed in June and will take effect in September. Just rock it for another month and then you can take it off for good
i have a couple sidemount lic plate brackets that i got from roaring turtle a while ago that im not using, since my province doesnt require front plates anymore. ill send em to whoever wants em for 30 bucks each. just pm me
If you have a place to mount a front plate on your car and your state requires you to have one, you can't put it in your windshield and get away with it. If you don't have a place to mount it I think you can have it on your dash.

Damn, I hope that's true
I got pulled over for the first time the other day by DPS... they're the only ones that care about that kinda stuff(in my town) local cops don't care. hell I saw a guy run a redlight right in front of a sheriff and he just kept driving....
