Default EF DX died. Jump-started and fired right up. Disconnected the...

... battery wires and the car still ran. (so the alt is working) Left the car running and put right hand on the valve cover. Put the left hand on the distributer. Got shocked!..

trying to help a friend.

Don't do that and you wont get hurt.

But seriously you may have a coil with a "hole" in the side of it. Take off your distributor cap and smell it if it smells funny look for a "spot" on the coil that corresponds to a spot on the dist. or cap.
