Insurance cost on GSR
i currently own a 99 civic ex. i was planning on selling my civic and purchasing a 2001 GSR. The question i have is that how much would insurance cost me. Keep in mind that im running on liability at the moment. My parents told me that it was going to be about $1,000 for 6 months but i think they are bsing because my civic was $450 for 6 months.
My brother pays $78.00 a month for full coverage (State Farm). Theres alot of things to cosider all the discounts he has: Student discount (3.0+ gpa in college), Clean driving record as long as he's been driving, he also did some driving program for his insurance company to get additional disscounts (Its called steer clear). He drives a 00 GS-R.
I live in also live in Alaska, I dont know if that matters or not.
Probably want to call your insurace company and get a quote, Takes only a few min. Hope that helps, Good luck

My record is ****, but....
Company: Progressive
Coverage: Comprehensive (aka Full)
94 Civic Ex: $130/mo
94 GS-R: $190/mo
94 GS-R after accident in Civic showed up: $265/mo
I get raped.
Accidents aside, my rates went up about 45% when I went to the Teg. Your 'rents aren't too far off.

Mines 900 every 6 months, 18 year old, perfectly clean record, full coverage. with allstate.. Youll want, probly need full coverage cause of the theft rate + it probly wont be paid off all the way, so I really dont think your parents are lying..
I'm 18 and most insurance companies wanted 200$ a month for full coverage on my 00 GSR...So right now its under my dads name with me as secondary.
I see you are in california... so you will get raped!
I was paying about 220/mo with state farm/full coverage/500 deductible, but then i got a multi-line discount, and showed them that I have an alarm and it went to 185.
WAYYYY more than it should be, but they told me that my "insurance index #" was as high as for a turbo porsche. Mainly because of the theft rate and all the rice burner ******s who crash their crap doing 120 in front of the high schools.
Got to pay to play i guess.

I went from around $900 / 6 months with progressive to $1600 / year with AAA. 26 yrs old, perfect record, no tickets no accidents, but full coverage, 00 gsr. I got down by adding on renters insurance, which strangely, with the multi-policy discount, dropped the car insurance more than the cost of the renters insurance. Back when I was with state farm (I forget the actual cost) but I did get a nice $50 / month discount for adding on $5 / month life insurance. Sometimes, you need to play strange games. Multi-vehicle discounts can be used that way too. It cost me all of $5 a month to add my spitfire to the policy, because of the reduction to the Integra's rate.

On my 00 GS-R I was quoted when I purchased the car $1400 every 6 months, but my family has been with our agent for 22 years so, he hooks me up sometimes, so, I am paying $900 every 6 months for the GS-R

wtf, some people here are getting hooked up.
Full coverage for a GS-R???I'm seeing some low figures here.
I've got a 98 GS-R and I pay something like 220/mo. for full coverage. clean record, the usual discounts...and thats with a high deductible (1k rather than the more common 500) in the seattle area
yall are crazy if you have just liability on your gsr!! its only what, one of the most stolen cars ever

youre getting raped? right now, my insurance company knows nothing about any tickets i have gotten. and i still pay 102 for absolute liability on my LS. i called every single insurance place in town, and with my 2 speeding tickets( no accidents at all), the cheapest i can find liability is 1300 for 6 months. they might as well tell me to bend over with my pants down and wait for ron jeremys viagra to kick in.

man none of yall got it bad...mine jumped from 470 every 6 mo to 1800 every 6 month full coverage but good grades and steer clear drop'd it to 1000....i wrecked cuz my tire blew out and it cost 3 G's to fix...**** state farm!
I have a 94 GSR with full coverage and $250 deductible. I pay $501 every 6 months...but Im 28 with a clean driving record.
Do yourself a favor and keep your record clean...itll make a big diffeence in the future no matter what you drive.
As far as insurance companies go, most of them adjust your rates according to the zip code you live in (in addition to the car). B/c Integras are on the top 10 most stolen list, this will hurt you if you live in a metro area. On top of that, bad credit will cost you more in insurance...I think that should be a capital offense, but that's the way it is. If you can, find a company that doesnt adjust according to zip code.
I used to pay Progressive almost $1000 every 6 months with a $1000 deductible and comprehensive with the minimum state limits. When I changed to Western National, I got better coverage, a lower deductible, and my rates dropped by 50% just because they dont adjust according to zip code.
Being in SoCal...Id say your parents are definitely in the ballpark.
