Vibration during acceleration, diff bearing is shot.
I have been experiencing severe vibration when accelerating for the last few weeks, and it has gotten worst. I got under the car and inspected the drive shafts, and the one on the passenger side has alot of play where it goes into the tranny. I looked it up and it is the differential bearing.
I have been delaying my clutch change for awhile, and I am soooo glad now, because I can change the diff bearing while I have everything apart. My question is, can I pull the differtial out of the case without pulling all of the tranny gears and shafts out. I know that they will come out in one unit, but I would rather not have to deal with them. Man, it would be a good time to change my 3rd gear syncro, hell, and to swap some shorter gears in even.
If anyone has any imput on my situation, please post up. I don't have much money and could probably only afford the diff bearing and the cost of a shop to press it on the diff, and do all the other labor myself. I would love to have the money to swap in shorter gears or at least a 3rd gear syncro, but the kits are so expensive. Thanks.

Check your countershaft and ring gear for any abnormal wear patterns. Sometimes a bad diff bearing can kill a counter and ring gear combo. If you could I would fix the 3rd gear problem as well since you have it open. It may be more than a synchro and usually is the sleeve and gear that have worn. Maybe you'll get lucky!!
