Things to look for when buying a 5th Gen?
I am sure this has been covered before, but I tried searching several times and was unable to come up with anything related.
I am currently in the market for a 5th Gen Prelude and was wondering some specific trouble areas I need to watch out for on these cars.
So far I've concluded that these cars probably need water pumps and timing belts at around 100k.
Other than maintance is there anything specific I can watch out for while looking at the cars?
If this has been covered before - feel free to link me up to that thread.
Thanks!

Definately look out for 3rd/5th gear grinds in the transmission. Other than that, i cant really think of anything else major to look out for.
Good luck!

Before you go buy any used car, I suggest that you read the article printed in the most recent issue of Import Tuner Magazine. They have a very good, informative article about tips and tricks to choosing a good used car.
You are already doing the right thing by asking questions before you go look.
Good luck with your search... hope you find a good car.

I seem to be running across a great many ads that say the car has a rebuilt engine even though theres only 110k-140k miles on the car. Do these engines have a tendency to self-destruct or is it more likely a great majority of 5th Gen owners pushed there H22's too hard?
Also I am seeing tons of rebuilt/new trannies listed as well. Is the 5spd not very durable.
Again - any help is greatly appreciated -even if its just links to pre-existing threads.

ive seen a lot of business type looking women driving preludes, but if its someone under 25 or even 30, you know it has been abused.
if you really want to be safe, the way they look is basically what you should look for. ENJOY

true about young teens driving a lude but man girls suck at driving. They miss gear all the time and abuse the brakes and don't care about oil changes too. I'd look for a guy that's 35-40 years old and keeps it stock. You know some people call the lude a poor mans sports car.
