bleeding gone bad
well installed a new radiator fan today, wired it up and hooked it up.
started bled the cooling system, heres the problem
so i took the radiator cap off, put a funnel in there, filled it up with distilled water, then some antifreeze, and then more water until it got a little full. turned on the car...
the car heat slowly started to rise and when it hit normal operating temp. the thermostat never turned on so the fan never turned on. it started to steam a little bit but hopefully it was just the coolant i spilled burning off. i left the car on for another 5 mins and nothing just coolant filling the funnel up more and more, so i just turned off the car
any advice?
TIA, helping out a freind
no i replaced the fan b/c i wanted to go with a slim fan. there were no problems withe the car before
i just realized i forgot to disconnect the battery on this whole process, could that have messed up the fan? how do i ground the negative wire, so i can hook up the postive to a battery? it should still work with solder on it right?

first off what yr car are you working with ??
# 1 t-stat and fan have nothing in common except fan wont come on if t-stat wont open but if it was woring ok before just be replacing fan would not have screwd up the t-stat ..also not disconnecting the battery it should not matter i have never disconnected battery when replacing fans .....if you wired everything properly fan should come on unless you shorted something and blew a fuse ....and ultimately give power and ground to fan make sure it works ,,posit wire to battery power and neg wire to any grounds

Maybe you should think about finding some friend who knows how to do wiring.

How long is this process you are taking? What I did was rev it a few times and some bubbles would pop up and keep checking the temp. It took a matter of 30min to an hour to bleed it completly. I made sure the fan came on at least 3 times before I stopped bleeding the system and made sure that the fluid topped out.
Wait for at least 2 fan cycles. Be patient!!
