Does anyone have the Denso iridium plugs on their cars?
how are they? is there a significant amount of difference you feel with those as appose to having the NGK platinums?

Also, does it really give you 4-6hp increase? I mean how long do the plugs last and what is so special about them that they cost so much.

They will not do anything for you that a copper plug won't do, except last a very long time. Copper plugs conduct electricity better than platinum or iridium, but they only last 15K miles or so. They're only about $8 for a set, and you can change them on Integras in about 5 minutes. On cars where it's extremely difficult to change plugs (Camry and Solara V6's for one, entire intake manifold must come off), then iridiums are a good choice because you can drop 'em in and they'll last proabably 100K miles. For an Integra, I wouldn't waste the money. Coppers will still be cheaper in the long run.

 

because there is less shielded material they do tend to foul less than standard plugs, there is simply less surface area for fuel, carbon etc to stick to and that is important for me as I run pretty rich on the street. sidebar - they also made me 6HP on the dyno, not sure if I changed anything else but ^hp extra showed up. Also if you ever make a lotta jam and drop a plug they will cause less damage.

 

I fouled out a set of the Iridiums real quick on my B20.
They were 6 heat range equivalent, and my compression is 12.3:1

Motor seems to like the GSR or ITR stock plugs the best. PFR6G-11 or -13.

Honda puts 'em in there, so you can't be wrong by using them.

 

Yeah but the problem is they're just so friggin expensive! Sorry but $60 on a set of spark plugs is highway robbery, no matter which way you look at it.

 

How often do you guys change your copper plugs? The comment about 15k above made me think, im at 21k, should I grab some new ones?

 

If I ran copper plugs, I would change them yearly (~20k miles for me).

It doesn't hurt to spend about $10 and do an hour of labor to change plugs.

 

I've put 17K miles on my car in exactly 8 months (bought the car June 18th). I changed my copper plugs out a few weeks ago for a new set. The old ones were in fact looking pretty worn. Took me a total of about 10 minutes, including gapping the plugs.

 

I have a set in my 2000 GSR and I would never spend that much money on plugs again. Once I get start building the head this spring I am going back to stock NGK's.

 

Stock platinum is still expensive.

 

i have been told that Honda ignition systems are weak, that's why they put platinum plugs in GSR's, Si's , cause it takes less power to use a platinum plug , and of course the obvious, that they last longer, and sounds better for mantinence records and such. SO everyone tells me , stick with platinums dont' switch to copper.

 

i also have a set in my integra, i think (maybe it was my imagination) that the car seemed more responsive lower down ,but maybe it isnt, i'm getting the car set up on a dyno on wednesday, and i'm going to stick the bosch plugs back in before i go and then cahnge them after the first run, just to see what bhp if any, they make

 

Hondas don't like Bosch anyway from what I hear, everybody says the +4 stuff is junk.

Copper conducts electricity better than platinum, so how in the world would the platinums require less power.
