"Fine. Don't double clutch. But don't come cryin' to me when you fry your piston rings, blow your intake welds, and lose your floorpans, you granny shifting H-T-reading bitch!"

haha...nice reply!
Yeah, double clutchin in our tegs is worthless. "Granny" shiftin is the way to go.

i wouldn't say worthless. synchros can wear out.

how would double clutching hurt the clutch...lemme make sure i understand though...clutch in...neutral...blip to the appropriate rpm...slide in gear...release clutch...hows that excessive wear on it? unless im thinking of something else
cause when i downshift i do that to reduce the wear on the synchros...at the right rpm itll just suck into gear

what you're doing is called rev matching, and it's good for saving the synchros.

yeah my cousin just taught me how to do that so the my gears don't grind. If i don't then they grind at high RPMs. Worked for me and kept my trans from grinding when pushing it.

Thats a whole lot of clutch going on...lol. Sounds like you will loose a couple seconds doing this

CORRECT! Few people here do that correctly, as I learned from another thread... haha
Something I do sometimes, which I refer to as "double-clutching" even though it is different, Is to pop the clutch while giving it some full throttle. Lets say you are casually shifting... and while you are in the middle of second gear (about to shift to third) you decide you want to get your speed on. Without doing any shifting... you press the clutch while flooring it and then drop it back out a half second later. This will get you out of your midrange and into your upper rpm band (slipping a little clutch/tires) much faster than pushing through 4k...5k...~6k... rpms.
Kinda like this:
1st________2nd________(clutch in+throttle)***(clutch out)_________3rd_____....
- -(~3500rpm)^ - - - - (~3500rpm)^ - - - (<6000rpm)^ - - (<8500rpm)^
Been working for me for 3 years... clutches still last 50k+... helps you out when some clown is coming up on you for a pass or whatever and your just cruising, but you want them to think they are going to win before you really get the best of them.
haha. Flame me if you want. Pfft...

a friend of mine does that.im skeptical on whether it actually does anything other than just rev and launch... but i mean... we are already going 35. I would just down shift, or accept that im not gonna make the light

it's a lame coneption that pushing down on the clutch while your at WOT will give you an extra push

I was taught that if you match revs correctly you don't use the clutch to get back into gear, as the gears are already perfectly in sync. If you slide it in gear it goes in smoothly and without any trouble at all. I thought this was how it was supposedly done. Granted, as all of you have said, its more or less completely useless and is just used as a fashion show.

If you time it right, you don't need the clutch at all, after you get moving.
Rev up in first, let off gas and pull sitck to neutral (one motion, you need to get the load off the gears), wait for revs to drop to exactly where they would be in the next gear, slide stick into next gear. Worked like a charm in my cavalier, works perfectly fine in my gsr, haven't tried in my spitfire (26 year old gears and all that). I wouldn't try it unless you are very comfortable with the transmission, you will place a lot of strain on the synchros if you mess it up.
Also, for double clutching, it helps with with 1 -> 2 upshift in older VWs. From first, push clutch, drop into neutral, let out clutch, wait for revs to drop to appropriate speed, clutch in, shift to 2nd, clutch out. They frequently grind if you try and shift too fast, from my experience.
