Default 1/4 mile times on my bro's ZCrex

Well my brother went to Ennis this Saturday and got consistent 15.9's@88mph. 3 to be exact. This is on a 88Si(ZC) with Iceman underhood intake and no muffler (doesn't have money for a new one), and 16" Snipers with Nitto 450's. What do you guys think of his times? Is that a good time for his mods? I'm thinking yes, but trying to find out what everyone else has come up with.

Almost 16, I'd say he's on the slow side. Lack of power isn't always the culprit though. Did he run slicks? Does he know how to race? Only 50% of the race is the car, the rest is the lump of jello behide the wheel.

I've found my ZC likes to run in the 5K to 7K area while racing so I do what I can to keep the RPM's there all the way down the track. What gear is he in while going over the finish line? What RPM is he turning at the same? Important questions to know the answers to while dialing a car in for 1/4 mile racing.

Good luck, lemme know if I can help.

This is slow. I'm not knocking him, I just want you to know so you can figure out the problem.

I ran a 15.6 in a civic hatch my first time out. My thrid run ever was a 15.2 and I averaged 15.3s. A few people told me that I was running slow. I've heard people say that they run 14s with the ZC, but I'd say average is about 15.3-15.5 for civic, and about 15.1 - 15.4 for the CRX.

What are his 60ft times. That should tell a lot. If they're like 2.8s or something, then that is his problem. The mph makes me thing the power is there, but the launch is wrong. My 15.2 was at 91 mph (not all that much faster than his mph). He should be getting 2.1s-2.3s at worst. If you can post the entire run, I think we'd be able to spot where he's loosing his time at. 14"s would probably help too depending on the sidewall of the 16s.

Ok. I'll try and get his timeslip. Also this run was in Texas, on a pretty warm day. So that might be a factor. Also I saw Si's running 15.1-15.5. Are you saying that his car is faster than the new Si's? By the way this was his 2nd time at the tracks. The first time he ran he did very bad, and ran a 17. Needless to say, he's gotten better with a little bit of my coaching. Are these times you're stating on a ZC EF Hatch?? Were are you located?

Now that you mention weight. His car is pretty heavy when compared to his 91 HF (daily driver). I have some blackies with some ok tires. Should we put those on when racing?

Hey what's up man. I haven't ran my car yet. I have a sohc vtec in my 90 std. hatch. My bro in his rex has already beat me in the street, but my car is running very bad. It's pretty rich. I'm getting a Zdyne ecu this week, and I'll see how much better it runs. Also I'm going to do a tune up this weekend because I pulled the plugs and they're pretty black. Does your car look stock from the outside?

dump that ZC into a river.
If you want better times drop a B!6 in that rex.

It seems like getting the ZC is the cheaptest and slowest route.

You're right. If I had the money I would just go with a CRVTEC. Why settle for a B16. But money is why he has the ZC. Unless you're willing to let us borrow some.

I still think he can go faster. My 15.2 was on a 70 degree day, so it was pretty cool. On a really really hot and humid day I hit a 15.6s - 15.7s. My car is a 91 Civic Si hatch. This was on perelli P600 M+S tires from ($50 each). They aren't good tires. I'd definately go with some 14s if possible.

It could be his driving. Maybe he needs some practice.

And yes, a ZC in an HF will dust a stock 'new' (99-00) Si with no problem.

my d16a6 fully dressed 89 rex Si, new rebuild, stock head pulled a 15.7 first run, open header, with a .942 R/T 2.393 - 6.641 - 10.168 - @69.83, 13.214 - with a final of 15.789@85.81, thing is I got a zc in my garage with new rods, pistons t3(.42) and mad head work on the way and now I wonder if its worth the time and effort to finish my project? Any suggestions?

It's worth the time if you want to stick with a D series motor. If not go B18A. Don't waste your money on a B16 IMO. If ZC isn't enough, just jump to B18A.

I think they do make one for the DX to Si harness, which will allow you to run MPFI.
Does anyone know what else you can do to the ZC to make it faster, without going FI? Just trying to point him in the right way.

hey i live in the dallas area, i went to ennis once last year, and i ran some perty crappy times, but it was my first time and i hadnt figured out how to launch my car yet. i ran a 16.2 at 84mph w/ the stock si motor, gude head cam and underdrive i/h/and crappy back half exhaust. Now I've upgraded to a gude ecu and new catback exhaust. I want to go back to ennis, anyone know when it opens up for street nights?

Well they had the 2nd Test and Tune this past Saturday. I'm not sure when the Street Nights will open though. Once I get my car running right I'm going to go and test it out, and If I can beat him. I'm going to try and see if I can get the Gude cam also.

Ok here's the #'s on 2 of his runs.
Run#1 Run#2
R/T .844 / .545
60ft 2.456 / 2.488
330 6.776 / 6.780
1/8 10.309 / 10.319
mph 69.06 / 69.13
1000 13.358 / 13.377
1/4 15.925 / 15.938
mph 88.40 / 88.26
Run# 1 was his best and Run #2 was his best R/T. Also this is his second time at the tracks. He's raced on the streets many times, but the track is a different thing.
Let me know what you guys think.

R/T has nothing to do with the overall time of the 1/4. His 60' times are poop. With the little of power, he needs to be around 2.2 at most. My friends ZC powered, DC header, cheapo exhaust/intake ran 15.0-15.1 consistently. I bet if he ditched the 16s and put on some 14s, he would run like 15.5 to start off.

What kind of tires should we put on the 14's?? Nitto Drag Radials?? Also all he has is a Iceman underhood intake, and no muffler. The header is next on his list.
