Hesitation from a stop on my 02 Accord VTEC 4cyl.
I have had a hesitation/dead spot from a stop on my 02 Accord EX. I recently bought it used and the engine has 52,000 miles on it. It is a 4 cylinder, VTEC engine. I recently cleaned the throttle body and made certain that the air filter is clean. The dead spot from a stop still exists. No engine lights are lit. Engine idles fine. This dead spot is beginning to annoy my wife (and me).
Any help on what else to possibly look at would be appreciated.
Thank You,

Thank You,
I have an '01 Accord EX (same 4cyl VTEC) and I have the EXACT same problem. I think it has to do with the transmission issue that extended the warranty on the car but I'm not sure. Anyone else know more about this??
Check this out:
Hesitation on acceleration, idle fluctuation, surging
Applies To: 1998-02 Accord L4
Tech Line Summary Article
A misadjusted base idle adjustment screw can cause engine speed fluctuation, surging or a hesitation at take off. When the base idle is misadjusted (too low), the Idle Air Control (IAC) is opened further by the PCM to compensate but the IAC cannot react to all conditions when the throttle is slightly open.
By increasing idle air bypass, the IAC closes and the engine becomes less sensitive to throttle position and less dependent on the IAC. To adjust the base idle bypass correctly, refer to Service Bulletin 99-064.
