Default intake and rpms?

ok I installed my aem short am intake and now instead of being af 3000 rpm at 100kmh its at 2600rpm, great deal its gonna save on gas but is that normal? my friend has a 2002 civic and he got an intake and exacaust and the rpms didnt change?

Intakes should have no affect in rpms, it just makes the engine breath better. Maybe your original air filter was really dirty????

hmm well when I bought the car last month I changed the air filter, there was like 3 pipes leading into the stock box maybe there clogged or somthing. do those rpms sound normal tho?

That is not possible. You would have had to do MAJOR work for any change, and that includes part replacement.

There was no change...

I noticed when I put the same intake on my old integra, it idled at a lower RPM, but I don't think that it would change while you're in gear.

uhh yeah, the rpms did drop, its been at 3000rpm since I bought the car last month at 100kmh on the dot, now at 100kmh its 2600rpm on the dot, what is the rpms spos to be?

this is not possible by merely changing the intake...the gears in your transmission are what dictate the ratio between your engine speed and vehicle speed in any given gear...perhaps your overdrive was not working if you have an automatic transmission car and somehow now it is...however the intake will not change your gearing...

ok I went to the honda dealer and the mechanic said if thast happending its because theres a vaccum leak, So I reseated the vaccum lines and clamped them good and my rpm went up to about 2700rpm, so its fine th ecar runs fine
