hey guys my cigarette lighter doesnt work, and i tried plugging in somethin else and no power, i looked under the hood for a fuse, cant find one, looked for one on driver side, cant find one. Is there a fuse for the cigarette lighter? If not then how can i fix this....thanks
Does your radio work? How about your interior dome light? Depending on the year of your Accord, one of those will run off the same fuse.

remove the socket from the dash; on the back of the socket you will see a plastic case. Inside that case is a a type of fuse that separates when there is too much amp draw. You can resolder that connection if you're sure you aren't over amping the socket.

Umm... ok, let me put it this way:
Some years (don't remember which): cig lighter + radio = same fuse.
Other years (3rd gen included, don't know about others): cig lighter + dome light = same fuse.
If you car happens to fall into the "other years", and your dome light doesn't work b/c of the fuse, then no, your cig lighter won't work.
If you just removed the bulb, or removed the dome light, or cut the wires, or whatever, your cig lighter will still work as long as the fuse is still there.

Follow hondadude's recommendation. If that doesn't work, you'll have to follow the wires back to the fuse box and check for damaged/burnt wires (unlikely).

chk under hood fuse box fuse # 22 15 amp under dash fuse box fuse # 11 10 amp ,,they both have to be ok to energize liter relay
if both are ok chk power at wire white/red behing cig liter if you dont have power you could have wire problem or a bad cig liter relay ........if you got power you got a bad cig liter assembly ........

It really helps if you use a volt meter right after each connection and/or fuse...then you can narrow down the problem pretty easily (i.e. check the wires right before they get to the lighter socket, either side of the fuse box, etc. )
i have the same problem and i checked on this...it seems someone took the fuse out of the plastic part on mine.....can neone tell me what kind of replacment fuse i need??
thanks for such valuable information hondadude. i have been busting my brain trying to fix my cigarette lighter for weeks now. i did what you instructed and it worked perfectly. i was unable to charge my phone and gps while driving but you changed that. thanx a million. RESPECT!!!!!!!!
I am having the same problem. I have a 92 Accord. The radio works. I just noticed that the dome light is out. I popped out the lighter unit and everything was connected. I saw that little case and opened it, and didn't see a fuse. I actually replaced the whole thing and cut the wire and replaced it with a flat standard connector and still no dice. I am going to try to locate the dome light fuse to see if that's out.
The plastic casing is the fuse. The copper lead is soldered onto the main lead, and if there is too much heat it melts the solder and breaks the connection.
So since I got rid of the casing and direct connected the wire to the back of the lead shouldn't it work? I still have the casing, but I changed the end to a flat connector that makes a direct connection to the lighter, but there's still nothing. Will it not work without that casing fuse unit?
Phil, some things to keep in mind:
1. For a CB7, the cigarette lighter and dome light are controlled by the same fuse in the fuse box (#22).
2. The cigarette lighter has its own relay.
3. That relay is controlled by fuse #11, however, 11 also controls the radio.

I will check the dome light fuse too. Thanks.
Problem solved. It was the interior light/antenna fuse-15A under the hood. I think I blew it when I connected the new lighter unit. The dome light, antenna, and intermittent wipers are also controlled by this fuse, that's how I found the right one. Thanks for your help all.
Once again, you all rocked my world! This site is invaluable to someone like me who works on her own Honda (91 Accord, 224K miles)!
Thank you, Techs! Keep 'em coming!

I have taken apart the lighter assembly but don't know what to do next or even how to put it back together. The plastic case has me confused.
Please watch my video to see just what I mean. What am I supposed to solder there?

ok, quick question for your cigarette lighter relay pro's; what is the main function of the cigarette lighter relay? I'm trying to put a 4 pronged cigarette lighter harness plug from a 1991 civic into a 1989 civic and the 89 only has a 2 pronged harness plug and no cigarette lighter relay. I have the harness from the 1991 civic as well. I would like to put it together as close to factory as possible. I know what the wires go and what charges they carry, but I'm still perplexed about what the stupid relay does, or if i even need it?? thanks for all the help.
