4th Gen: Draw-tite Trailer hitch installation question
I recently aquired a draw-tite hitch for my 4th gen. I went to install it last night and ran into a problem. It bolts up in three places (two to the rear bumper, and one to the tow hook). So, I can see where the bolts go for all three, but the problem is with the two that go into the bumper. The draw-tite unit came with a nut and bolt that go through there, but I can't seem to reach the other side as it is inside the bumper. It looks like I need to take the bumper apart, does that make sense?(Not the bumper conver, I mean the metal bumer behind the cover) The existing holes that are there are threaded, and I'm wondering if I just need to buy the right size bolt and screw it in (with no nut). So has anyone installed one of these before? Anyone know what the right size and pitch of those bolts holes are?
TIA
TIA
Yeah I installed the hitch on my lude. Yeah in the instructions I had it said they had three different ways to install depending on the year. One way was with the nut and bolt as describe but that was only if the bumper support is open which yours isnt. Then the other way was to bolt into exsiting nuts. but they had two different sizes listed. Do you happen to have the instuctions. I cant remeber the size but I thought the pitch was 1.25 or 1.5. I dont think I have the original instructions.
I just called drawtite.
I have them emailing me the instructions maybe that will have it on there. beback later with answer.

Its M10 X 1.5 X 35mm or M10 X 1.25 X 30mm. This is right off the instructions that it could be either. I dont think the length mattered I think for mine they were too long anyway. just make sure you clean the inside of the nuts with like a wire brush and pb blaster. to make sure you can test the right size bolt.

Your welcome. I had this hitch installed on my 92 and pulled it off to put on my 95. I thought the threads were the same and it threaded fine then when I got towards the end threads on bolt broke and the other became really hard to get in. I didnt clean the nutz though befor I did it. So now I dont know what to do. I might drill out then re thread .
