This is the first time shaving my valve cover, and I'm pretty impressed by the results so I thought I'd do a small simple how-to since I've gotten a few PM's about it..

Supplies:
80 Grit Sand Paper
Electric Sander
Krylon Jet Black (3370) Wrinkle Finish Paint
Valve Cover
Lipgloss
Q-tips
Mothers aluminum polish
Aircraft Paint Remover

Getting started:
(this is going to seem pretty simple because it really is)
First things first, remove the valve cover. Use the 80grit sand paper first.. Sand down the DOHC VTEC.. the VTEC should be the first to go, Use alot of pressure. You'll notice that the valve cover isn't really flat.. So don't focus on just keeping the sander flat.. Move it around, and apply pressure. Once the VTEC is gone, Focus on the DOHC part.. Once that's gone, Take your aircraft paint remover..Read the directions on the can, and apply and let sit for about 20 minutes..Then hose off. If there's any excess paint that's still on the valve cover, Spray again with the APR. Once the paint is removed, Dry the valve cover off and wait a few minutes.. Then take some mothers polish and polish the letters you want to stay blingtastic. Then take some lip gloss and put it on a qtip, and apply it to those letters that remain that you want to be bling. Shake the wrinkle paint up REALLY well and kinda hold it by the bottom and throw it around.. Kinda weird? Yeah seemed so for me too.. Spray the valve cover with one really really thick coat..But make sure it's even.. Let set for about 10 minutes.. And apply another coat.. Let dry over night.. and hopefully it turn's out like mine below.. I waited 30 minutes after I painted mine before I put it on my car because I'm inpatient.. Honestly I think that's why mine didn't get too wrinkled, Which I like even more because it's more of an OEM look. Good luck and if any questions feel free to PM,IM,Email me. After you put the cover back on the car when it was still wet, did you start the car or just let it sit all night.?

I was curious because heat is supposed to increase the wrinkle effect. Me and a friend tried the wrinkle paint last weekend and sprayed 3 coats and let dry overnight, it did not turn out anywhere near as nice as yours. The wrinkles were way too big.

which paint did you use? I know you bake VFT wrinkle paint, but i never had experience with the Krylon paint

 

We used the VHT and it said nowhere in the directions that you have to bake it.......Hmmmmm maybe that's why it didn't look as good as expected.

 

If you want the paint to stay on the valvecover and not chip off spray 2 coats of self-etching primer on the bare metal after u have stripped it

and that's where your wrong, if you primer it it makes the wrinkle paint want to come off under heat. thank's for the .02

i started the car up, and drove it around. i'm an inpatient *******. about the wrinkles being too big.. putting it on the car and running it helped mine i think.

i saw the krylon wrinkle paint at Kragen today

 

looks good.

 

i am so gonna do mines...it looks like an LS valve cover Sleeper look and i don't even think cops would even notice if you have LS-vtec in a teg
