Default shaving b16 rods

I konw that at least 1mm needs to be shaved off each side of the rod to fit into ctr pistons but after going to 3 machinge shops today i found out that no one around here can do it. I also heard that shaving the rods yourself could mess up the balance. Is this true? What balance would i be messing up?

Thanks

....Its kinda cheesy that none of those shops can mill the sides...your gonna have to send them to a reputable shop out of town...
