Default Quiet Helmet?

I have been looking at getting a new helmet to go with my new bike (i still have all my other gear). I was wondering if there is any sites that show the level of insulation in a helmet? I am looking for one that has the least noise (wind noise, obtrusive exhuast noise ect)

I have an HJC AC-11 and an ICON mainframe right now. The HJC is more comfortable than the Icon and is much quieter, the Icon is very loud on highway with lots of wind noise around visor area.... Shoei's don't fit my head right...ive been told to try an Arai RX-7?? Any opinions on your helmets and noise level?? THanks

All the helmets that vent well will be noisy. I highly recommend wearing ear plugs if you travel above 35mph.

I would only use Shoei or Arai, for me my Arai is a much better fit and much lighter than my previous Shoei. You either have a head which fits one or another type of helmet, go to a decent dealer and try them out.

Oh and my opinion on the RX is its a tarts helmet. All very well if you have lots of cash but there are better value Arai's that hold up just as well for less. Dont get sucked into having the latest piece of snot just because Johnny Racer has one on the television

I think it's illegal to wear them in CA. But no LEO has given me flack for having earplugs when I take my helmet off...

Your results may vary.

Yeh Im gonna get some custom made earplugs one day here, nice ones that are moulded to my ear, you can get em for like $40 and thats not bad considering they give you the mold and its next to nothing to get them made again from the mold...

Yeh I won't buy it becayse its some racers pro model thats for sure, im not into throwing another $500 into a helmet because its got the same graphics as a racers...I was thinking arai for quite some time now, I think if i can find one that fits perfect i'll buy it because Shoei's dont fit my head properly and i find alot of the smaller brand name stuff feels cheap...

RF-1000 is a pretty quiet helmet. The rf-900 was the most quiet helmet Ive ever had.

i don't know of a site but many years back there was an issue of Motorcyclist that listed the different helmets, their weights, and sound level inside by dB. shoeis were heavier than arais but were quieter inside. but then again, you gotta take into account your head shape also. Arais seem to have been made for small, more compact head shapes while shoeis were better for people with longer heads.

regardless, i would wear earplugs also. i think i'm deaf in certian frequencies even though I wore earplugs.

I have the RF-1000 (voltage) and I still would highly recommend ear plugs about 45 mph.

some helmets you can adjust how/where the visor contact the molding and that make more or less noise accordingly

Custom ear plugs are niiiiiice. Or so I hear. I've always stuck with the local drugstore brand and have always been satisfied. Let us know where you get it done when you do get custom earplugs.

I went gh3tt0-s7yle today and used some masking tape over the sides of the helmet, which helped a bit. Need to get some plugs tomorrow, though, since I'll be riding to work on Wednesday. Actually, we'll ALL be riding to work on Wednesday.

You could wear one earplug, but 2 is illegal. Its just like wearing head phones in your car..you cant hear anything around you.

Depends on which pugs. I can still hear things with mine in. Lets face it the things you want to hear are going to be loud, i.e a car horn, someone shouting or a siren. Earplugs IMO wouldnt stop you from hearing them.

Its laughable that people would rather damage their hearing than dismiss a pathetic piece of legislation.

I would rather break the law than lose (some) of my hearing ability.

My old Arai RX-7RR was super quiet My newer Arai RX-7RR is super loud

They were exactly the same size and all but for some unexplanable reason, they're completely different when it somes to noise. WTF?!

Keep in mind they have interchangeable linings. Maybe Arail put in a cheaper lining in the newer ones in order to improve profits. Just a thought.

I went from a cheap kbc to my Arai and I will only buy them for life. The only reason I am selling mine is cause sold my bike. Looking to step up to a liter plus bike in a year.
