4 out of the 5 top screws that hold my EG hatch's rear bumper on are siezed in place. I even bought an impact driver to try and make them budge, but all that did was strip them. What's my next option? I think they fit into weld nuts in the re-bar...

 

any ideas?

 

only other way is to just take a dremel and make a deep line across the top then take a flat head and hammer on one side till it breaks loose... i had to do this to one screw on the front bumper.

you can then get new screws at the dealership.

 

I'm definitly going to need new ones... I'm thinking I want to drill them out, but I don't want to hurt the weldnuts underneath.

 

yea dont drill them out.. just use the dremel on one and you will see it can be broken loose. as long as you make the mark is deep it will work out just fine. ill take a photo of mine tomorrow so youcan have an idea of how i did it.. ifonly honda made the phillips mark bigger and deeper would have been nice

 

 

try some liquid wrench or some other penetrating oil on it. let it sit overnight and try again.

the dremel trick works good also, i have broken screwdivers before tho when the bolts are really seized

 

Maybe try using an impact driver after using penetrating oil.

 

Try to get a pair of vice grips on there and turn them things.

 

I'm going to give this a try now that I have no other choice. I can access the bottom of most of them to spray penetrating lube and I'll use my impact driver to try and take them out with the flat head bit.

 

smack them good with a hammer , heat them up maybe rusty worse case is you might have to drill them out good luck

 

hmmm, honestly it looks like you can use screw driver to get that out... perhaps one made for bigger screws. my bolts look moore stripped/rusted and i just bust out the jumbo screw driver and its all gravy.

 

Vise Grips!!! it worked for me

 

best way that i have done is take a socket one size smaller than what fits over it, hammer it on there a little, and loosen. always works for me for the front screws and others

 

Nice... lots of good ideas here! I think I'm going to give the vise grips a try... the heads themselves have two flat sides which a 5/8" open ended wrench fits over perfectly which I didn't notice until today, but no luck there... it just stripped too. I couldn't the wrench on a proper angle. The vise grips should work a little better, even though there's not much to grab on to.
