Legal del sol roll bar/cage
I have a comp engineering cage for a civic that I found I could modify and fit in my sol fairly easily. My only issue is the rear bars. How can I fit them in and still get the proper angle without going out the back window, going through the trunk lid, and then into the trunk? How are people doing cages in sols and still passing tech? Before I weld anything in, I need to figure this out...
NHRA cage rules can be met without going through the window (you still lose the ability to lower it, I believe), but I've never seen a NASA/SCCA cage in a delsol where they didn't go through the window.
I'm finding it hard to believe that they let your bar pass. What angle are the rear bars at? I thought they had to be mounted to the upper most part of the main hoop... Am I wrong?
rear bars are at 33* to the main hoop. they are allowed to be 4" below the top of the main hoop (i believe 4 is the number, we looked it up when we made the cage)
sorry im slacking on the pics...

i guess thats just the way the pics look then. When your sitting in the car with the seats actually in place, if you take out the side bars, you cant even tell theres a cage in the car. Height weise, the side bars run past between my shoulder and elbow.

100% NHRA legal, but they arent cheap

he doesnt remember... i wish he could smack his head against a wall and suddenly have it come back to him. im debating putting in a cage and i want those too
ill have to call em up. The car spent about 2 months at the shop to get it all done. I had to go over there probably about 12 different days on my lunch break to plan out how it was all going to fit and be set up.
The rear window was removed and sections were cut out on each side of the rear pannel so that we could get the right angle on the the rear bars. everything got tacked in place, then the main hoop had to come out so the rear window could get put back in so that back piece cannot be removed now. If i ever have any trouble with the rear window, hopefully i can unbolt it and get enough room be leaning it forward to fix it.
The rear plates and main hoop plates are welded while the front plates are welded and bolted through the body.
As far as the swing outs go, its a company that makes two different kinds. There is a cheaper version that the shop said works fine and is legal, but they rattle alot.
If im remembering correctly the ones i got (good ones) were like $250 for each side (two female joints, two male joints, and two pins). They got them for me at cost, so im sure if anyone was to go through any company they would be in the 300+ range per side.
Im still planning to go up to the car this weekend (its a littl over an hour away
) so im going to take the camera up and get you guys some better pics. Ill give the shop a call and see if i can get the company that makes these swing outs. They had only used the like twice before so we had to search to find em for my car.
More updates later

Meets NHRA Sanctioning rule for OEM full body cars 7.50 e.t. and slower
C3182 is manufactured for 1-3/4" steel tubing and C3183 is manufactured for 1-5/8" steel tubing
Includes release pin and hinge bracket
Welding required

they arent bling anymore
i did the entire cage black. The car is suzuka blue (s2000 blue) with cf hood so im doing everything blue and black. I may get some paint remover and clean those of and put a little coat of clear on em. I liked the bling

got some good pics, thanks to wantboost for the heads up on photobucket since we-todd-did is having issues.
They are high resolution pics so they might take a min...
General pic..

closer up

Front bars through the carpet.

Mounting plate underneath the car for the front bars.

The only two pannels that had to be cut up to make room. I made a little bracket to hold them together so they dont rattle, thats what the screws are for.

Rear shot, sorry i had the window rolled up

Is a diagonal bar not required for NHRA specification? Also, will you be using the stock belts or harnesses? Seems like a harness bar would've made harness mounting easier, though I don't know about the space limitations on a Sol.
those are easy to find...can be found at any quality chassis shop. A.R.T. in FL carries them, CAchassisworks in CA has them...any of the big name chassis builders all over the country has them.
ART's part numbers are as follows:
1 5/8 x .083 #018901 $65.95
1 5/8 x .134 #018881 $62.95
1 3/4 x .134 #018900 $65.95
Just to give all of you an idea on the prices, but like I said, any well known chassis shops will have them. Honestly, all they are is a "weld-in clevis" for the right size tubing, and a tab welded to the other piece of tubing, so that they slide together, then just a push/pull or detent pin and thats it. Super easy!

nah, a diagonal bar isnt required. I considered putting in the diagonal and putting an extra horizontal piece in to be used as a harness bar, but i opted to just use the stock seat belts and run it like it is. If i decided to put that in later, its not like i cant add bars
