Default Ran my b16a turbo hatch at Epping

Well this was my first time at Epping with my new setup. It consists of a obd1 b16a with a t3/to4e 50 trim .48 AR. Dynoed at 275whp at 7400 at 11psi.....The .48ar is killing me! I was on 205/50r15 bfgs. Anyway i only got 2 decent runs in because i was trying to figure out where to launch it at and finally got close to where i should be launching it. Let me know what you guys think.....I was trapping 110 the whole night but my last run i hit the rev limiter in 4th and didnt shift 5th you can tell. I was bogging 2nd gear bad because i am only making power to 7400 and shift second because my power falls off so hard at 7400.

BTW I am hitting the rev limiter in 4th gear. What should i do about this?

60'- 2.130
330'- 5.795
1/8-8.684
MPH- 85.81
1000- 11.16
1/4-13.251
MPH- 106.34

60'-2.154
330'-5.730
1/8- 8.711
MPH-83.95
1000-11.225
1/4-13.316
MPH-110.26

Let me know what you guys think. This was my first time EVER running 1/4 mile and first time with this setup. I know its good for 12s but like i said i am hitting the rev limiter in 4th at 8350rpms, its not worth it to shift fifth and its killing me staying in 4th.

Shift. Your only going to go faster with practice and bouncing off the limiter is not a good option. Unless you run some taller tires your only option is to shift. I'd try some slicks. With 270+whp you could run 24's and be in the low 12's.

im hitting the rev limiter like 50 feet before the end. Seems like shifting fifth is useless but shifting 5th has to be better than hitting the rev limiter at 8350 when im making max power at 7400.

I was thinking of getting slicks but i really want to see what i can do with DOT tires.

Well in my situation i think im at a no win situation because like i said i only make power to 7400 when my redline is 8350 and my power falls off hard after 7400 so if i stay in 4th its killing me and if i shift 5th its a waste. Know what i mean?

BTW based on my traps and such what do you think my car is capable of? Mid 12s? On my built SOHC i ran 13.1 at 109 with about 240whp. So i think i should be able to net mid 12s.

In a b16- the power shouldnt be falling off hard (maybe you have another issue going on)...typically b16's make peak whp at or close to redline

whats your fuel/tune situtation?

Well Im running a t3/to4e 50 trim and a .48 AR on the hot side. Thats the reason im only making power to 7400. I also have to go back to the dyno when i put the .63 on and fine tune the ignition and lean it out some....Im running high 10s low 11s a/f.....

Well its a 92 dx hatch gutted, havent weighed it with me in it but stock it weighs 2150 without me and i weigh 160.

i had the same problem with my street tires, i switched to a 205/55/15 BFG touring tire solved my problems at that power level. (a lil over a 24" tire diameter) most stock tire sizes are a mid-low 22" diameter.

With the weight and that power on slicks you should be low 12's. My VX was at 2180 with me in it and ran 11's at 249whp but one 22" slicks. I was well into 5th too.

Should i be able to pull of some mid 12s on bfgs? What should i do about bogging in second gear? Stay in first longer or launch higher?

What are you b series turbo guys launching at? I was launch at 6k slipping the clutch and bogging 2nd gear.....I was letting it hit the rev limiter a couple times in 1st to help hook the tires up and then when i shifted 2nd it would bog....Should i launch higher than 6k, would that help bogging 2nd? It bogged so bad that it seemed like i had to wait a couple seconds to get going good in boost.

go with the 225-50-15 BFG drag radial. That'll cure your mph issue

dont really want to buy new bfgs because mine are brand new.....I was thinking about moving the rev limiter out to 8500 or so but not sure if that would be enough.

Raising the rev limit will work.
But TRY to shift to 5th and see how it goes.
Im trying to not be a hater right now.
Ive had this argument before.
I cant see how shifting to 5th will slow you down as long as you dont shift like a woman.
Hell, get used to powershifting 5th.
Its like butter after you get used to it.

I wouldnt think shifting 5th would slow me down either but in my case i think shifting 5th would slow me down because im so close to the end when its time to shift 5th.

I dont care if its 10 feet before the end.
Why would it slow you down ?
Shift fast. Full throttle. Simple.

Well hopefully ill go back to epping this friday and try it and find out...

What do you think i can do to help eliminate the bogging in second gear? Should i try and launch higher than 6k?

Are you riding out 1st gear as much as possible before you shift second ?
If so raise you rev limiter to try and get that rpm up a bit.

Yea im hitting the rev limiter a few times to try and let the tires hook up but it doesnt happen.....Wouldnt raising the rev limiter hurt me even more because my power falls of at 7400? Should i just let it bounce off the rev limiter even longer?

The only way you wont bog in 2nd is to modulate the throttle in first until you get traction. You just don't have enough speed going into 2nd when you spin through first.

I have a s4c tranny on my b16a2, i was reading some info about tranny specs....At 8250 how fast would i be going with an s4c tranny with 205/50/15s? I ask this because im topping out 4th gear in the 1/4 but my highest trap is 110. All of the stuff i have read says the s4c tops out at 116 in 4th gear.

If this tells you anything, with a 1.7 60ft I ran 12.4 @ 107 before with my LS and my friend pulled the same 60ft (1.7) with his LS turbo and ran a 12.3 @ 105.

Practice launching

your problem is with 1st gear not 4th. get the 1st to 2nd shift down and the rest will take care of itself.

launch at 6-6500, modulating the throttle there (spinning) until it grips (practice) and then letting it go to the rev limit...then shift to 2nd. no bog in 2nd and hopefully youll have enough r's at the end to stay in 4th.
