Default For those rocking "NA is BEST!" stickers...

For those rocking "NA is BEST!" stickers...

Of the friends/acquaintances I have rocking these stickers, and theres more than I can count with both of my hands, none of them have been in a Honda/Acura with some sort of Forced induction.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with going NA, I just wonder why some NA guys are so hard up on NA, without even experiencing other options.

Are there any of you who once went FI but went back to NA, because it was the "best"?

EDIT: THIS IS NOT A Normally Aspirated VERSUS Forced Induction THREAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

some people just prefer NA over turbo, they like the idea of being fast without having the aid of forced induction and others for money.

I'm NA and it's because I feel that it's more impressive/respectable to build a good NA motor rather than slapping a turbo or supercharger kit onto an engine and calling it done. I've never had the pleasure of ridding in an FI Honda, but then again I've never seen one that was done respectfully. Just the fore mentioned slap on and go.

I don't have an "NA is Best" sticker--but I definatley dig all motor. I also appreciate a good turbo car, but there is just something about the urgency of a powerful naturally aspirated car especially one that is carbureated...cheers

NA to me doesnt mean "not turbo". a 98 civc ex with a fartcan just doesnt really fit the bill as NA.

the way i look at it..honda never made a turbo car and made the majority of their motors high revving high compression combinations of reliability and performance. why not accentuate that?

and yea im thinking they did make one turbo cari n like 84 that was only offered in japan but...whatever.

Kick back man, there's been worse threads than this before, I didnt mean to offend you.

You fit the exact description in my first post. Thank you for posting, its the likes of you whose attention I wanted to grab. I agree that the "slap on and go" turbo guys are out there, but there also many many more guys who do it right with tuning, fuel, etc. In fact, I'm sure you can find one here on Honda-Tech.

Boost may make more power for you dyno queens out there, but how long will a 600 hp honda civic get you to work?

I'm not rocking any stickers, I like cars of all makes and types. I keep my eyes looking, and my mind open to new ideas and concepts. I've been in road racing/autocross cars, drag racing muscle cars, comfortable luxury cars, but to keep it in scope, some of the Honda's include an 11 sec NA Civic, a 12 sec NA integra, a 400 hp turbo GSR, 200hp turbo DX, 250hp turbo accord, a DA with a 75 shot of nitrous, and supercharged Prelude.

Those "all moter" (as you say) guys that I drove or rode with were coincedentally oblivious to other forced induction Hondas, hence my reason for posting. Dont get me wrong though, I loved all those cars, especially the NA ones.

Its unfortunate you got a bad kit. As long as you realize it was the actual kit itself, and not the concept of turbo. for high revving too.

why would you say "slapping a turbo or supercharger kit onto an engine and calling it done".. do you know how much more work is required for a FI engines then n/a... so dont think you know it until you experience it..

To me its about classes. Yes, i can build (not just slap on and go) a nice turbo car and put down about 500whp. The question is how long can i drive it. even if only a race car. tranny will go quicker, suspension needs to be dialed in with little margins as to most efficiently use the power. More problems arise due to the extra system(s) installed whereas an NA car has the basics to worry about. I still have to put time and lots of money to be competitive. Once built though, maintenance/breaking would be less.

this is all In My Humble Opinion

definitely. as for drivability, the turbo was fun as hell ... but the kit was made from **** ... I don't know if you've heard of them, but I got one of the famed Stafford Fabrications turbo kits ...

it just gave me way too many problems

I dont have an NA is best sticker on my car. I love my NA car but dont get me wrong i also love boost. I was going to build a boost project but everyone now days seems to be going boost so i thought i would go outta the ordinary. I love sound of a high reving honda hitting 9-10,000 rpm and still making power. I also love the throw you in the back of your seat power then 15psi hits you like a ton of bricks. I prefer NA because of the daily drivability and the respect of spanking boosted cars.

like everyone says, N/A gets respect. especially when you start spanking backyard turbo kits and V8s; AND in a 4-door 7-year old Accord. N/As are high strung, and it takes a lot of work to pull the high HP numbers and keep driveability (sp?). there's pride in the fact that we can pull numbers close to (and sometimes more than) some FI cars. don't get me wrong, FI is cool too. i've ridden in both, and my next project will be boosted, but i will keep the N/A project as well. FI and N/A are different states of being. but it all comes down to personal preference; just like our cars are individual.

It is the best to say "yeah, it runs low 13's" "wow, is it turbo?" " no" "nitrous" "no, all motor" " WOW!!!, thats pretty fast" for 9k RPM!!!

Yep.
One of the reasons why I prefer N/A is the incognito aspect of it.
If I see a car with a huge FMIC and a loud *** BOV, that thing better be fast. FI has a real "show off" effect, that I prefer not to have.
Anybody can be fast with a turbo. No doubt about that. Spend 4-5000 on a Revhard and there you go, you're fast.
But there is a smaller percentage of people that can sit at night and look online, and pick out certain parts for their motors, to piece by piece create a 9K redlining behemoth of a inline four.
If somebody REALLY wanted a boosted 4 cyclinder, they shouldn't have bought a Honda. They should've just spent their money on a VW and got that 1.8t of theirs.
Maybe it doesn't seem like it, but I do have respect for them FI guys. The thing is, if you see a car with a loud BOV and a huge IC beat a "stock" looking car, it's no surprise.
But if you see a "stock" looking car run circles around a turbo'd one...that just seems reeeeaaal embarassing for the FI guy.

I've owned both cars (non honda) and ridden in all of them.. there's no best IMO, just what the owner prefers.

But I'm rocking the sticker just to annoy my buddies with FI :-)
