Default Really hard to put into gear

Ok so my friends hatch is having this weird *** problem. He said the clutch pedal started to feel kinda mushy/sticky... not having a solid feel to it anymore. Progressively it got worse and worse.. he said in the upper RPM's he'd not be able to shift at all. It's gotten even worse where his clutch engagement point is much closer to the floor and is much narrower and where shifting pretty much at any RPM is very tough and rev-matching is required. First gear is impossible to get into from a stop.

What is causing this?!?!?! The clutch fluid level is ok the master cylinder is a couple months old. Any ideas are GREATLY appreciated.

Gears aren't grinding unless I really try to force it in. It's a Centerforce 6 puck.

Also there is a very distinctive whining noise when the pedal is pushed in.

Maybe a bad throwout bearing?
If the car makes a whining noise while in gear, it could be your input shaft bearing..

nice reply..

Whining noise = Bad input shaft bearing, but it could be a combination of things..

how many miles are on the clutch setup?

When you did the clutch did you change the pilot bearing, throwout bearing, etc?

I got my S20 (d16z6) tranny rebuilt for 250.00 with all new OEM bearings and ****.. it may be time for a rebuild or to get another tranny..
