Default 98 Accord is stuck in park because of the curcuit to the brake lights... help!!

My 98 accord has been getting stuck in park. The problem is the part mounted next to the brake pedal that tells the car when I am putting the pedal down. That part is malfuntioning, so my brake lights don't come on, and I am stuck. I have to jiggle the pedal for 5 minutes in order for it to work correctly one time, in order to get the car out of park.

I just need to know what that part is called so I can get another one. Does anyone know?? Is there anything I can do to the existing part to fix this problem in the meantime?? Thanks for your help, I am very frustrated.

Joe

EASY fix ..

i had this problem 2 years ago..

go under the dash, and disconnect the part wire from the other wire. then screw the brake light switch off and take it out.

once you have it out, get a small flat head and bend the 2 tips on the brake part. once you bend the the tips take it apart, and get a cue tip and put alcohol on it and clean it out. put it back together and bend the tips back, and put it back in.. then your done

oh yea, when you clean the brake pedal switch for the light its gonna have black muddy stuff in it, if not that means you have the problem in the gear selector.

good luck
