Anyone know how to remove sound deadening pads?
I was wondering if anyone knew how to take off that nasty sound deadening rubber stuff. I heard you can take it off with dry ice but i'm wondering how that works too. Can anyone help please ?
i did that with my old ej...and it took me about 30 minutes to do the whole car...all i used was a putty knife.....i was gonne do it to my ef but i was scared that there might have been rust so i didnt touch it....i never weighed it so i cant tell u how much it came out to but it had to be at least 10 lbs.

i used dry ice to get mine out. i crushed it up with a hammer, and let it sit for 5-10 mins. then i easily chiseled out huge chunks with a big flathead and hammer. i had tried to remove it earlier without dry ice, but it was a lengthy, slow process to completely remove it. it didn't come off in clean chunks like it did with the dry ice.
suprisingly, it didn't make the car much louder after i removed all of the sound deadening material.

Before I did some spots for my roll bar plates, I must have read every thread ever mentioning the subject.
The dry ice seemed to be the favored method, with some people saying they used simple tools only.
When I did mine, it was only big enough squares to fit the plates in. I didn't use dry ice, but the car went through a MN winter if that helps.
I took a razor knife and kept slicing it into a "waffle" pattern. Once you get the cuts really close (I sliced one way, and then accross it the other) the stuff just started crumbling off.
Oh, and from my reading, everyone seems to think it's 15lbs of **** once you do the whole car.
