A/C Recharging
I have an 94 accord Lx 4dr...the car needs to be serviced (freon)...I kno that it takes the R134a....I kno u can buy the stuff at AutoZone for cheap...my question is it hard to recharge the system?...has anyone done it them self's?...does it require any special tools?....any imput would be great thanks..
you ll need to get the recharging kit for it, its around $25 I believe. You should check walmart they have a can of r134a that has the adapter to fill your charge system. Its easy just connect to your ac line fill and toss the can if its empty.
Just so you know freon is r12 and is oil based and r134a is water based and more environment friendly and more easily found as r12 is pretty much illegal to sell.
Just follow the directions on the can for a recharge and I believe any car above 1990 is r134a based (anyone correct me if I am wrong).

you need to have a set of gauges it would also be a good idea to evacuate system, put it under vaccum and then recharge for that you would need a vacc pump and yes you are correct it takes r134a do not put more than 20 oz total , make sure heater cable is adjusted properly and both fans come on when a/c is engaged
Ideally, when it comes to A/C, if you want it to function at it's optimum level.. you will want a shop that owns an a/c machine to evac & recharge it. Evacuating will remove most of the moisture than can accumulate in the system. If you're a/c stops blowing cold, you're leaking freon. You will want them to inject some UV dye in with the freon so that lateron they will be able to locate the leak with special glasses and a UV light. That way, you're not recharging the system every other month throwing your money away. Slow leaks will turn into fast leaks over time. Pretty soon it will only hold freon for 1 day. Comon leaks on that year accords are evaporator leaks.
Without having an a/c machine, you're not going to know precisely how much freon you're going to have in there. A/C works best with an exact amount of freon. If you're over it won't blow as cold, if you're under it won't blow as cold. How are you going to know how much is in there to start with and how much to add ? You won't without gauges. Food for thought.
Typical rate for evac/recharge/dye is about 100-120$.

next one you do add the oil before you install compressor in car

I found a can with 2oz of oil in it so I just installed that. Everything is working good. If something breaks, I'll just replace it...
