Default Lost motion assemblies

I thought LMAs where really just noise suppressors for the big vtec cam rockers, when the motor is still on the small lobes. Is this true and if so, do they serve another purpose?

Sort of. They control the VTEC rocker while VTEC is not engaged to keep it from flapping around on the cam.
