obd1 and obd2 vss same?
shows as the same part number for both year cars.
make sure the plug pins aren't bent or damaged,and make sure there's no trash or anything in the new VSS sensor.

You can also use the VSS from hydro single cam tranny's also if you have one nstead of buying a new one. I had a friend who did a GSR swap and the sensor went bad so no V-TEC and he went bought a new one at honda for like $200 and some change when he could of used the one from the SOHC tranny.

it's most likely the peices fromt he old sensor left in there.the VSSs are identical,and no mods are required.it's not uncommon for the white plastic piece that locks the pins in the plug to come loose,then when you swap in a new sensor or use a different harness,it gets in the way.
