vtec only engages at normal operating temperature and normal oil pressure.

Look in the prelude forum for the troubleshooting VTEC thread.

like he said vtec will only engage once the car is at normal operating temp and pressure so im gonna guess that maybe your thermostat isnt working properly or something isnt letting the temp or pressure stay at the right level because generally your motor shouldnt engage vtec until it has ran for about 5 minutes and warmed up to regular operatin temps?????

Maybe your temperature sensor went out? Even if the thermostat is stuck open, it will take longer for the engine to reach normal operating temperature.

A number of sensors could cause this. But you really need a CEL, check engine light, so you and us can sort thru it. COuld be VTEC pressure switch, which I found is easily bypassed, VTEC soleniod (most often bad connection or low oil level, or Coolant temp sensor which is located below the distributor area. Is it saturated w/ oil. I know this is pretty common w/ B-Series engines.

yeah then it definetly sounds like an issue w/ ur coolant temp sensor.. or the wiring.. the sensor is like 30bucks, try replacing that and see if that fixes ur problem--- there are several things the vehicle looks at before engaging vtec... "maybe" for some reason ur sensor is reading more than it should, allowing u to engage when the vehicle is actually cold, but when warm, making it look like temps are too high, thus not allowing vtec... good luck
