90 civic si starter will not engage
I have a hatch with the d16a6 and I just changed the clutch and after I put it back together my starter will spin but not engage and start the engine. The wires I am pretty sure are hooked up correctly. Any help would be appreciated thanks
be TOTALLY sure that the starter is connected properly.
could you have accidentally damaged the starter while you had it out?
spinning and engaging the flywheel are both actions internal to the starter. basicly the motor spins the pinion gear and a solenoid pushes the gear out so it meshes with the teeth on the flywheel to turn the engine ; then the gear is retracted by spring to disengage the starter.

my civic does the same **** after swappin da tranny cause my **** slammed to the floor cause i dropped to low and i changed the whole tranny but **** wont start, juss sounds like its spinning in the air ?
You can remove the starter again, set it up on the floor, hook it up to jump box or jump cables, just accross to signal wire, and see if the starter is working properly. It should jump out and spin.
